ATLANTA -- Judge Marvin Arrington insists he's not a racist; despite ordering white lawyers out of his courtroom on Thursday.
The Fulton County Superior Court judge said he was just fed up seeing a parade of young black defendants in his courtroom.
"I came out and saw the defendants, about 99.9 percent Afro-Americans, and some point time I excused some of the lawyers, most of them white, and said to the young people in here 'What in the world are you doing with your lives,'" he told WSB-TV Channel 2 reporter JaQuitta Williams.
Arrington said he thought his message might have more power if it was delivered to a blacks-only audience.
"I didn't think about racism or reverse racism, I practiced law for 30 years and 75 percent of my partners were white," he explained.
The judge said the majority of people who appear before him accused of crimes such as murder, rape and robbery are black and he wanted to do something about it, one on one.
"I didn't want them to think I was talking down to them; trying to embarrass them or insult them; be derogatory towards them and I was just saying 'Please get yourself together,'" he said.
Arrington added that he may make a similar speech next week, but this time he'll allow everyone to hear it.
For those wondering, Marvin is a Democrat who was at one time the President of the Atlanta City Council and was appointed by Governor Roy Barnes (D) to his current position on the bench.
And so you know, he has shown himself to be as African American centric as Andy Young and the late Maynard Jackson. He is simply one of the black community’s answers to the “good old boys”.
Some I my best friends are white. Really.
That said, I was at first blush aghast, but then it started to make sense. Nothing else makes an impression on these hoodlums. And if they have Rev. Wright for a pastor, well, I'm sure their days are marked by who sells the most dope to whitey to get money into the hood to empower Blacks and pay for Rev. Wright's new home.
Just maybe a tongue lashing from such a person may sink in.
You've spent too much time on your tax return. Give it a break.
Ever hear of "a figure of speech"....it is an effective tool used by some of the best public speakers. And in this case, sadly, probably close to the truth when considering the total number of defendents in Atlanta courts and Atlanta's demographics.
The black matriarchy Moynihan talked about forty years ago is almost complete now.
I am lately seeing more and more young black men involved with white,Mexican and Asian girls who will”let me be a man”in the traditional sense.
Way too many of”the sisters”try to dominate and run the show, which is why the young black men are less and less willing to see them as even POSSIBLE marriage material.
And thats not even mentioning the fact that marriage itself is an endangered institution everywhere now.
One cant be African-American if one has never stepped on African soil
saying it the way it is cause no one else will
Uh-oh. We have a judge showing common sense.
Good for him. The PC nonsense going on in this country is going to kill us all- I don’t think this was the least bit racist.
There’s a BIG difference between what this judge did and said and the Jeremiah Wright’s of this world.
It didn’t say he gave them a good talking to and then set them free. Calm the heck down.
I agree. Bill Cosby has tried to preach the message, but he's ignored because his message doesn't carry the "I'm-a-victim-of-white-racism" that Jesse, Al, Jerry and all the rest spout. Blacks need to get off the "victim" mentality and start fixing their problems themselves. Jesse and Al's approach of throwing my money at their problems doesn't work because they don't want it to work...they'd be out of business if it did.
As to the poison Jerry spits each Sunday, he reinforces the victim mentality by blaming whites for all black problems. Sorry, Jerry, your dog $hit in your house. You need to clean it up yourself.
Our MSM has conditioned us to do so
We have legalized discrimination in this country...Affirmative Action set the mindset that it is acceptable to discriminate against whites. This affirmative action judge is just another example of it.
Nice logic. Not. Don't take credit for being 'tolerant' when you had absolutely no say as to who worked with you, when we all know that if you did, you'd be working with your "brothers and sisters",and not the kind of people that you threw out of the courtroom, presumably in blame and shame.
He wanted to dress down, scold, issue a wake-up call to the defendants--who were all black, using his position as an authority figure and even as a father figure.
This time, I'd cut him a break. It does not seem to be his intent to demean whites.
They were probably your TYPICAL WHITE PEOPLE and the judge was just sick and tired of dealing with them . You see the problem does not involve the crime so much as the white people in the court room . Once the whits are removed from the court room than only can real justice be served .
I think I understand .
>>Actually, legally, that’s going to be far, far worse for him.<<
Why would that be worse?
Yep, smart move.
I was prepared to be annoyed with this judge, but after reading the article, I say, “You go, your honor!”
I applaud his actions. Well done, your Honor.
I agree; the headline is gratuitously inflammatory. He was trying to help.
That is the key, I agree. The TV station doesn’t have anything else other than what’s here. I’ll have to see if I can find out his exact words myself.
