(BEIJING) - A 19-year-old woman has allegedly confessed to a "terror plot" aimed at an aircraft flying from the Muslim west of China to the capital Beijing.
State media said the girl, named for the first time as Guzalinur Turdi, was trying to cause a fire above the wing.
She had injected two drinks cans with petrol, which she had placed in the waste-paper bin in the toilet, when she was spotted by an air stewardess.
The revelation of the "terror attack" was made during the National People's Congress, or parliament session, in Beijing this month by senior officials from the region of Xinjiang, which is inhabited by members of the mainly Muslim Uighur ethnic group.
A long history of dissent and calls for autonomy has occasionally erupted into violence, though there have been no major reported terror attacks since the 1990s.
At the same time as the aircraft attack was foiled, the provincial Communist Party secretary also alleged that a Muslim terror group based in the region was plotting to attack the Olympics, though he did not say what evidence he had.
Exile groups who oppose Chinese rule have alleged that both incidents were fabricated by the authorities to discredit them.
Previously state media have reported that Turdi was travelling on a Pakistani passport with a male companion, who was also arrested, as was a third man not on the plane who was said to be the "terrorist mastermind".
She is NOT going to have fun in a chinese prison. Gutanoamo looksl ike a five star resort in comparison.

Coming from the ChiComs anything is suspect.
The Chicoms have (painfully) extracted more than a few false confessions for political gain in their day, so it’s difficult to know what to believe.
Need photographic evidence to determine guilt or innocence, your honor.
It's low to make fun of foreign names, but in Guzalinur Turdi's case, I'll make an exception.
Ordinarily, yes, but I think this is a surprising admission to come out, before the Olympics especially, that yet another region wants to opt out of China.
I flew recently within China and there is absolutely no security that I could detect. We flew “domestic” flights on China East and China West.
I agree we should opt out of the Olympics. Why support a Police State (obviously without Sky Police) and put out athletes into a Munich situation?

I have flown within China, and I felt there was a normal amount of security, although they didn't make me take off my shoes.
I doubt she’ll be on the Earth much longer, much less in prison. I think the only thing she has to look forward to is a firing squad. I sure hope she’s a guilty party in this, and not just another political victim.
I agree with you. The only thing going to the Olympics would show is that we really don’t care about how they treat their people/slaves... Enough is enough, and SOMETHING has got to be done - even if it’s just a show of support for the people who want Freedom by NOT attending.
The Chinese are not vulnerable.
They would like you to think they are.
