NRA and confiscation of their training material?
Basil | 3/25/08 | Basil

Can anyone help me?

I read (I thought on FR) that there was some sort of building that the NRA rented to hold all their firearms training material that they send out to their trainers, and that the building was emptied out for some reason and the NRA lost all of the materials.

Does this ring a bell with anyone? I'm trying to find the article, but it doesn't show up anywhere.

I'll appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks!

Doesn’t ring a bell, and I believe one of my local trainers received material from them last month...

I recently got an email from them saying that training materials are temporarily unavailable, but that’s all I know. FYI, I am an Instructor/Training Counselor.

Why would someone confiscate training materials? They might “go off?”

Sounds bizarre.

This supposedly happened in the last couple of weeks. We (SAS) are hearing from some of our trainers that they can’t get their supplies. That’s why I’m asking the question.

I read the reason on another site (AR15.com) last Friday. The company that handles printing, distribution and order fulfillment for the NRA training material, and many other customers, went out of business very suddenly, leaving about 100 workers without their last paycheck.

Apparently, the NRA does not hold all of the rights on the training material - some copyrights apparently were held by the fulfillment company. That means the NRA can't just run out to Kinko's and print up some more copies. From what I gathered, its a big shady legalistic mess - successful company bought out and driven to the ground, and maybe even some outsourcing angle. I will see if I can find the article again.

Ah - found it!

AR15 Thread

Company in question is AB&C in Rhode Island. Some pretty interesting comments and stories linked on that AR15 thread.

Now that's a little odd. How'd that happen?

I'm an NRA certified firearms instructor (for about 20 years, now) and I got an e-mail that said essentially that there would be no more training material available for the foreseeable future, due to circumstances beyond their control.

Thanks...I read the rest of the thread and see where there’s a supplier problem. Similar thing happened last year to Friends of NRA committees - our supplier of framed prints went bankrupt and could not fulfill orders.

Sounds like it’s time to get innovative out in the field - copying materials for ‘fair use’.

I'm a T/C, I have not heard that.

During January there was a hold up for a couple of weeks
in order to do physical inventory at the supplier.
