ANGELINA Jolie and Brad Pitt could be split on which Democrat to vote for in the US Presidential race - with researchers finding they are each distant relatives of a candidate.
Barack Obama is apparently Pitt's distant cousin, while Hillary Clinton is related to Jolie, Madonna, Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette.
Meanwhile Republican John McCain is said to be a sixth cousin of first lady Laura Bush.
Researchers at the New England Historic Genealogical Society made the connections, the Associated Press reports today.
Senator Obama can also call six US presidents, including George W Bush, his cousins, according to the findings.
Genealogist Christopher Child, who worked for three years on the candidates' family trees, told AP: "It shows that lots of different people can be related, people you wouldn't necessarily expect."

Actually, it's not surprising at all. The secret is that everybody is related to everybody. You go back ten generations and you have 2046 direct ancestors. Factor in siblings -- probably many thousands more, and their children -- and in just ten generations you'll find you're directly related to hundreds of thousands if not millions of people.

That’s why geneology is bullcrap — because you’re almost certainly descended in part from kings and princes and whatnot, just as everybody else is. I read something once that something like 80% of all people of European descent had Mohammed as one of their ancestors — the math is incredible, but after you go back far enough it becomes totally meaningless.
Why? Going back 10 generations (~250 years) you have 1024 (210) ancestors. Going back 20 generations (~500 years), you have 1,048,576 (220) ancestors. Going back 30 generations (~750 years), you have 1,073,741,824 (230) ancestors.

Okay - which is correct?
In the title Clinton is related to Pitt but in the article the author states that Clinton is related to Jolie and that it is Obama that is related to Pitt.

Well I wonder how many of us reading this thread are direct decendants of Mohammed? After all he had 12 wives and had lots of children, and his male children did a lot of raping and pillaging.
Whenever my kids and I are watching movies set back in Merry Olde England, I remind them of our heritage. As the royal coach rolls across the screen, I note "Yes, children, there are our ancestors. See the one holding the pitch fork and the pig in a sack standing on the side of the road. There is your Great-great-great Uncle James."
It is a proud moment.
