Everything you need to know about Rep. Byron Rushings anti-lookism legislation, you can learn from your local Hooters.
The restaurants, I mean.
Anyone who understands the basic economic principles behind the worlds most successful retailer of both chicken wings and orange-clad booty knows what Rushing wants to legislate against isnt discrimination. Its human nature.
In Rushings world, if Pamela Anderson and Paul Prudhomme applied for the same job at your business, you wouldnt be allowed to notice the physical disparities.
Either of them.
To notice, Rushing told me yesterday, would be unfair.
So if hiring a qualified George Clooney over an equally qualified George Costanza is unfair, what is fair?
According to the state rep from Boston, fair is when every employer who declines to hire an altitudinally-challenged or gravitationally-gifted applicant faces a potential state investigation. Fines and jail time could follow.
So does this mean that future Hooters wait staffs would be forced to include the distaff equivalents of Danny DeVito and Dom DeLuise? Not necessarily. But businesses would have to prove that appearance was essential to the job.
Otherwise, Rushing complained, employers would be free to hire whomever they wanted. Oh, the horror!
If a business owner can hire people based on their looks, then he is deciding who is attractive and who is not, Rushing said. Who is he to decide?
I argued that hes the guy whos running the business and paying the taxes and bills, thats who. But thats not good enough for Rushing.

hey! waddaya think? I’m a protected class!:-) (ugly AND fat)
The legislator in question...
Rush saw this coming years ago, civil rights for Uglo-Americans.
“But businesses would have to prove that appearance was essential to the job.”
Will they next have to prove that intelligence, common sense, good hygiene, and personal integrity are essential?
What if an employer decides that black people arent attractive? What then?
In my local hooters, black gals are as attractive and popular as the white and hispanic gals.
Rushing’s legislative motives are clear. He wants to be able to pick.
IOW the complainer empowerement act.
This is to give the little wussy crybaby who never learned to stand up for himself the ability to beat up on the self actualized.
If in my business I believe that every employee represents the character and image of my company, do I have to disparage my company image by hiring the unkept, disheveled unwashed masses? I think it would be much better to consider a business as private property of the owners and their hiring choices as a private matter. If the market responds negatively they will adjust or vanish. No tyranny required.
I guess they will have to hold the Miss Massachusetts contest outside the state from now on.
Then he may well be gay.
otherwise, the likes of Larry King and Don Imus would have long gone.....
let's hear the refrain again about "hooters" being a family restaurant......LOL....now we hear that it IS about the boobs, period....
I got you beat. I’m a real troll. Does this mean I can sue a super model for declining a date or other physical means of gratification? Sweeeet!
People and jobs not fleeing the state fast enough, eh?
Is this where I say “Not Guilty”...
or is it “I’d buy that for a dollar?”
Heh heh heh.
The general rule is that broads get better looking the more south and west you go in this country.
This was what John Lennon called “Bagism” in the late 60s. You can’t judge someone’s character if you don’t concentrate on their personal physical characteristics. Of course, the way dear John chose to exemplify that was typically nutty! :-D
Byron couldn't buy a hooker on Kneeland Street
