WASHINGTON -- A crackdown on guns is under way in the District. Police are asking residents to submit to voluntary searches in exchange for amnesty under the District's gun ban.
The program is starting in the Washington Highlands neighborhood of Southeast Washington on Monday and will later expand to other neighborhoods.
Officers will go door to door asking residents for permission to search their homes.
Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said the "safe homes initiative" is aimed at residents who want to cooperate with police. She gave the example of parents or grandparents who know or suspect their children have guns in the home.
If weapons are recovered, they will be tested and destroyed if they are not found to be linked to any other crimes.
Would that be the same gun ban that will, most likely, be declared unconstitutional sometime in June?
What happens if you refuse permission?
Well.... if you have nothing to hide. /s
I'd be tempted to say to the cops, "Sure, you can search my house, if I can search the mayor's and the chief of police's houses and YOUR houses."
The only possible reason they would refuse is because they had something to hide.
:^)
Yep and the Nanny City Government seems to believe that it will be struck down.
They are trying to confiscate as many guns as they can before the law is nullified and the people learn that they have the right to own operable firearms.
I'm sure if your decline their "generous" offer, you'll soon find yourself being followed by a police car every time you leave your home and being pulled over for the slightest driving infraction...
The residents most likely have any idea what is going on in the Supreme Court about the gun issue.
Just what is motivating the young, ambitious (read Obama-clone) DC Mayor Adrian Fenty to go to the mat for gun control like this?
Are we perhaps seeing the true influence of the Soros-network in influencing rising Dem pols by discreetly telling them that future support will be contingent on their obedience to their orders?
That’s really the only thing that makes sense here. Recall the DCPD’s recent, pointed refusal to protect a local recruiting station from “peace protesters” just a few days ago.
“I’m sure if your decline their “generous” offer, you’ll soon find yourself being followed by a police car every time you leave your home and being pulled over for the slightest driving infraction...”
DC doesn’t have enough running police cars to do much of that.
ROFL!!!! Most of the USA doesn't really understand how pathological DC really is ...
(Sure enough, you're flying a MD State Flag. ;'})
Yes, I believe refusal to allow this “voluntary search” will have consequences for the resident. Hell, with the state of the understanding of the Constitution these days, they’re likely to consider that refusal to be “probable cause” to go get a warrant. And, indeed, give us the results of the searches of various city officials’ homes as well.
You’ve got to be kidding.
I hope so one videos this and post it on youtube.
No. Next question.
Why would they divert important police resources for this as long as there are no religious themed monuments on public property threatening the "wall of separation?"
“Well.... if you have nothing to hide.”
My response to that type of question has always been: “Since I DON’T have anything to hide, you DON’T have anything to look for here.”
Some lawyer should take them to court and get an injunction to stop these b_stards.
Recall, Sen. Jay Rockefeller’s embarrassing revelation of his AR-15 in his DC digs a decade ago. He claimed not to know it was illegal.
