This Friday, March 28 2008, marks the Three Year Anniversary of our Walter Reed FReep. The main entrance to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, which is where we hold the Freep, is located at 6900 Georgia Avenue NW, Washington DC 20307
If you live anywhere near the Washington DC area please consider coming out to support the troops! There is plenty of parking in the area so you can drive there no problem. There's also a metro stop a few blocks away, but since it's a zig-zag walk from it to the hospital, if you're going to take the metro please send me a private FReepmail and we'll make arrangements to pick you up and drop you off.
At the bottom of this post you'll find the link to a map of the area. You can also send private FReepmail to me or any of our other regulars if you have questions.
To celebrate we're also going to have a little picnic in the parking lot across from the main entrance.

Tom thanks for posting.
We have also invited the troops and their families from Walter Reed to come out.
When I went over to pet the dog, I noticed that the young man he was with was missing his left arm just below the elbow. We struck up a conversation, and I learned that he was on his way from Walter Reed to a hospital in Colorado to have his stump revised.
This guy is 30 years old, is married and has 3 kids. His home is in Tennessee. All he wants, of course, is to get his arm taken care of and get back to his unit! I couldn't figure why he had the Lab, which was clearly a service dog, or wouldn't have been flying in the cabin of the plane with him. So I asked, and learned that the dog was used sort of as a pack dog--he could carry up to 50 pounds of the guy's luggage or other gear on his back.
Anyway, I asked him if he had noticed you guys at the gate every Friday night, and he very enthusiastically said YES! He said that you guys were real heroes to him and the rest of the troops at Walter Reed, and he couldn't say enough good things about you!
You are doing God's work. Wish I could join you more often.
Awwwww thats a wonderful story to hear about, thanks for sharing it Basil....
As far as helping out Walter Reed, I really wish I could be there, but I have my hands full with a toddler....
If there’s anyway I could help, just FReep mail me and I will see what I can do...

My wife and I are up from Florida and will be there for SURE!!
What time do we show up, where do we park, and what can we bring???
I am SOOO PUMPED!!!!
Thank you so much for that story, basil. It truely made my evening!
6:30 pm, some people arrive earlier.
Corner of Georgia Avenue and Elder Street, NW DC. If you are coming by auto, you can park in a little church lot at our corner. If that is full, there is street parking in the neighborhood. WRAMC is approximately 3 miles SOUTH of the Beltway, a straight shot down Georgia Avenue.
Temps will be cool, 50s to 60, maybe some rain showers, so bring an umbrella or a poncho.
Bring smiles and a hearty voice, to cheer our troops with.
:-)
Hey, this is tonight. Good luck to all.
