Michelle Malkin: Goodbye to the glow
Washington Times ^ | 3/22/08 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 03/22/2008 1:20:22 AM PDT by JohnHuang2

Barack Obama — the self-anointed soul-fixing, nation-healing political Messiah — has lost his glow. That is the takeaway from the beleaguered Democratic presidential candidate's "major" speech in Philadelphia Tuesday.

For all of his supposedly unique and transcendent understanding of race in America, Mr. Obama's talk amounted to the same old, same old. The Glowbama mystique has gone the way of the emperor's clothes. Instead of accountability, we got excuses. Instead of disavowal of demagoguery, we got whacked with the moral equivalence card. Instead of rejecting the Blame America mantra of left-wing black nationalism, we got more Blame Whitey. Same old, same old.

For two decades, Mr. Obama tethered himself to a fire-breathing pastor peddling bitter Marxist "black liberation theology" in the name of God. Behind the "audacity of hope" was a grievance-mongering preacher animated by the voracity of hate. And understand this: The Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Barack Obama were not merely passing "associates." They were mentor and mentored, guru and student, with fates and fortunes intertwined.

For two decades, while using the church to build his Chicago power base and credibility in the black community, Mr. Obama turned a deaf ear to Mr. Wright's AIDS conspiracy theories, class warfare rants, anti-Israel, anti-white raves, and "God d... America" diatribes. These weren't occasional outbursts, but the bread and butter of the Trinity United Church of Christ. Now, Mr. Obama blames "talk show hosts and conservative commentators" for exposing Mr. Wright's race-based rancor. Audacious, indeed.

I think Obama should affect change in his own life first, starting with the 20 yr. lack of change towards his minister.

The glow will return soon enough. The fires from the riots in Denver will be visible for miles.

If Hillary steals the nomination by Super Delegates, that is possible.

What must make the democrats more nuts than usual is that this race could still break either way. Hillary is now in a position to stomp Obama in PA. It's not enough to take away the delegate lead that Obama has, but it could indicate a trend for her. This, coupled with the potential for the "institutional racism" inherent in the democrat party to be just enough for a few delegates to turn their back on Obama following the hate-church scandal. I easily believe Obama has damaged himself with this far, far worse than anyone is willing to admit.

Either way, even if she doesn't get enough delegates to challenge him, it's obvious she's pursuing a scorched-earth policy. It's closing to the final round and she needs a "knock out punch" to win it now. That's going to take a huge, devastating scandal. That in itself strikes fear in the heart of every rat. These are weapons they once gleefully unleashed on their enemies (free and thinking Americans) and are now turned loose upon them. "Interesting times" in the DNC...

I have to disagree. Even following the recent scandal, Obama's been receiving huge support from the media and even got an endorsement from a key Governor just yesterday. No way is this over. He still has the primary delegate math on his side such that Hillary has a tremendous uphill fight ahead.

We want to track every movement of the train so we can be there for the trainwreck.

“he is not goin to get elected...”

That is indeed the whole point. He essentially has the nomination but now is so damaged he couldn’t win the general election. So now Hillary and her superdelegates (the Cavalry) have to ride to the rescue. Get the popcorn!

Neither Hillary nor Obama can win at this point. The Obama/minister ads would make the last election's 'Swiftboat' ads look like Ross Perot's 'Mickey Mouse tossed salad.', while a move to Clinton would disenfranchise the African American voting bloc of the party.

McCain's got it sewn up, and should just go relax somewhere until Nov.

Well, maybe I am forgetting the unfortunate things that tend to befall those who get in the way of the Clintons. (Maybe Obama should avoid airplanes for a few months?)

It also explains all the hoopla over Mitt's association with the Mormon Church when he was the 'frontrunner'.

That gives the uproar over Trinity Church validation, IMO.

The explosion happens if Obama ends up with the most pledged delegates and popular vote and Hillary then takes enough Super Delegates to win. Obama and his people won't stand for it.

Personally I think if she does not end up with a majority of the popular vote, she will not contest it further as a lot of power players will tell her not to. It would be delicious if she kept going anyway. It could destroy her and split the party.

The only way for her to sink Obama would be with some horific scandal.

Don't you mean 'another' one? There have been so many connected to the toons. The DBM won't let one bring her down. That will be up to us. It is just unfortunate that we don't have a candidate who is strong.

It has be something on TV like when Marion Barry smoked crack or something with immediate emotional impact. If they had Obama on Video in the pews when Wright was saying G-damn America, that could do it.

Ahhh no... but you can move on if you wish. I'll let go when the thunder sounds and the lightning strikes... if then.

“he is not goin to get elected...”

I hope not, but my faith in the judgment of the American people has slipped enough to not fully trust in his un-electability. Simply put, there are too many Americans who have bought in to the socialist mind-set and who have had their judgment clouded by relativistic, expedient, short-sighted thinking that I can completely buy the notion that a simple majority of American voters (or is that a majority of American voters who are simple) will excuse/ignore/look beyond Obama’s anti-Americanism and continue to believe in the “real change” (for the worse) he will bring.

As I write, I stop and think of how I (and others—I’m not alone) got this way, so pessimistic about America’s future, so doubtful of my fellow countrymen...Is it me? Or have we really fallen so far from our once lofty perch? (I just may need to remind myself of the audacity of hope!)
