Iran's former president Mohammad Khatami said here Thursday that Iran is among few countries to have rich civilizations.
Khatami, Head of International Baran (Rain) Foundation, said Iranians have had a role in manifestation of the world civilizations at least on two occasions throughout history: Once before and once after emergence of Islam.
He said after Islam Iranians have been assuming undoubtedly a unique role in establishment and promotion of Islamic civilizations.
Almost nothing will remain of Islamic culture and civilization if Iranian dignitaries and thinkers are singled out, he added.
"We are proud of living in Iran and spiritually love the infallible household of Holy Prophet of Islam (SAWA), particularly the first Imam of Shiites, Hazrat Ali (AS)," he added.
He then congratulated the audience on advent of spring and the New Year.
That’s not an entirely fair condensation of their history. It may certainly contain rape, pillage, murder and false prophets, but it also contains a rich intellectual history, and a fascinating place in history.
I happen to be of Viking descent, and my Scottish wife accuses me of raping and pillaging.

Rich civilization doesn’t guarantee a future. Especially if there is a choice between their rich existence and the western world, even with all its foibles.
