Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho), encumbered by a scandal since last summer, did not file for reelection by his states deadline Friday, keeping a promise he made and officially marking the end of his congressional career.
Craigs political future has been in doubt since his arrest and guilty plea on disorderly conduct charges filed after an incident in a mens restroom at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport last June.
The three-term senator, who previously served five terms in the House, denied the charges that he solicited sex from an undercover police officer conducting a sting operation to crack down on alleged gay sexual liaisons in the airports bathrooms. Craig said he pleaded guilty in hopes of quelling a scandal, a decision he said he regretted.
The passing of Fridays 5:00 p.m. deadline brings to a close a career in elected office that began with Craigs election to the Idaho state Senate in 1974 and all but clears the way for Idaho Lt. Gov. Jim Risch (R) to take his seat next year in the strongly Republican state where President Bush defeated Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) 68 percent to 30 percent in the last presidential contest.

Everything takes more time than you expect. I'm just grateful that it does not cost more than I expect.
John / Billybob
He did break his promise to resign. He realizes he would not win reelection.
He did the right thing. He’s smart. This is how you handle a crisis.
Just stick your head in the toilet and stay quiet until all of the crap stops swirling around.
I am willing to bet in this case the man with the farm will be willing to sell the man with Gold some food or seed for a portion of that Gold since we do not live in a vacuum and Gold will probably be a form of currency being traded in general since it is reliable.
Sorry posted this in the wrong thread by accident! Should have been in a different one.
Very good! :-)
Best wishes.
OK, just checking. I thought you had no basis on which to mimic Democrats’ talking points. Thanks for confirming it.
Eternal, I wouldn’t waste more time than you find absolutely necessary for amusement with Charles, who doesn’t even use the English language the same way other Americans do.
For example, Charles has alternative definitions of the words “all” and “participate,” leaning heavily as he does on Romney’s Revised Dictionary of the English Language 2007.
So when Romney says, “all people should be allowed to participate in Scouting regardless of their sexual orientation,” any semi-literate user of the English language understands what the words mean...Romney does not support the BSA’s ban on homosexual Scoutmasters and Scouts.
But in Charles’ dictionary, this Romney sentence magically means — for those blessed with telepathic abilities — that Romney only meant that the homosexual parents of straight Scouts should be allowed to show up at courts of honor.
I hear you. As cloudy as the political world is right now, one huge silver lining is the political demise of Willard Mitt, leftwing deceiver extraordinaire.
I would have thought that after Mitt Romney was no longer a candidate, you would have come to your senses.
Sadly, I see you have not.
All people should participate in this year’s elections. I know you think that means we should all be President, but “other Americans” know what the words “all” and “participate” mean.
I have sipped, and even gulped, fluoridated water for a half century. Does that make me a liberal? Both of my parents were Democrats. It is not a genetic thing is it? Now you have me worried.
At least a Pub keeps the seat if they get out to vote. This is going to be a bad year on the down tickets and it is up to Pubconservs et al to get out in all 50 states to support down ticket conservs.
On what issues is Sali to the right of you?
I used to fly around the SW Idaho desert in those black / dark OD green helicopters — i.e., Blackhawks — and wondered if that was what people were talking about.
Romney is now a perpetual candidate.
Truth-telling will be perpetual in response.
“All people should participate in this years elections. I know you think that means we should all be President...”
No, since you used English words, I would think you mean that all people should vote, pay attention to, volunteer, or in some other fashion take part in the election.
In Romney-speak, however, your sentence would mean that only Southern voters with red hair under the age of 50 should hand out brochures for the Libertarian Party on Wednesday nights.
That is, the words “all” and “participate” apply only to whichever demographic you say they do after the fact.
They don’t mean what most Americans know them to mean.
Remember, the political demise is only temporary.
Whether it’s as VP or again in 2012 or 16, as Ahnold would say: “He’ll be back.”
And unless the Lord calls us home first, so will we.
Darned few. He votes correctly, but his demeanor, speaking abilities (lack of) and presentation is sorely lacking. He is the type of 'conservative' that turns off the folks in the middle of the political spectrum, where elections are won or lost.
No one can be a Ronald Reagan, but serious Conservatives should study Dutch's style and emulate it as much as they are capable. Sali's style irritates many more folks than just liberals.
