George E. Curry: Rev. Wright's replacement defends pastor
McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via SacBee ^ | 3/21/8 | George E. Curry

The Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., Barack Obama's former pastor, had his retirement all figured out. His handpicked successor, the Rev. Otis Moss 3d, pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, Ga., would leave his church, move to Chicago and serve as Wright's understudy for two years, then assume the mantle this year in a seamless leadership transition.

In the first interview since Obama's defining speech Tuesday on race, Moss recounted how the controversy over some of Wright's inflammatory sermons had altered the plan. Holy Week, leading up to Easter, suddenly became holy hell at Trinity United Church of Christ.

"Before, we had been sharing the pulpit," Moss said. Wright "gave his final sermon (in February), and then we did a three-week celebration. Instead of retiring in May or June, six months ago he said: 'I want to leave early.' ... Then, BAM -- all of this blew up."

Moss used "this" to refer to fallout from videos of Wright that are being constantly replayed on the Fox News network and the other news outlets. The incendiary sound bites feature Wright changing the words "God bless America" to "God damn America" for treating its citizens as less than human, and pointing out that Hillary Rodham Clinton has never been referred to as the N-word or been accused by members of her race of not being white enough.

Wright blamed the United States' unbalanced Middle East policy for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and said the killings were an example of "America's chickens coming home to roost" -- a term popularized by Malcolm X during his black-separatist days.

Reactions to the videos divided largely along racial lines.

Why should Rev Wright get to chose his replacement???

Wouldn’t a congregation chose their own pastor?

Especially in light of “Rev Wright’s” ranting and raving???

There is a lot more to the job than the Sunday sermon. That is probably the least of the duties, so the performance evaluation might look a lot different than this sermon thing would indicate.

I strongly suspect that church’s organizational structure is more akin to fascism than a traditional church.

Just a hunch.

Yeah....WRIGHT!

Again the MSM and obamaites engage in the practice of urinating on our collective footwear while happily announcing that it's global warming that's producting the precipitation we're experiencing.

Note to Obama-llama-ding-dong followers, just because you're dumb as a bag of hammers, doesn't mean the rest of us are.

I doubt the new guy’s message will be any different; it has to appeal to the audience, you know.

You agree, Senator Osama?

You folks think all this crap is bad? Now have an IRS agent with the same beliefs that Wright has, audit your returns. You automatically loose. I would hight suggest you take your CPA with you and/or request a different agent.

"We're going to fight for the voice of the prophetic tradition," Moss said. "You cannot caricature Rev. Wright. This is an attack on the collective black church."

Most churches are congregations with the pastor as the guide and teacher. Pastors come and go at the will of the people.

Some congregations are basically cults where the pastor is worshiped, can do no wrong, and his word is believed as the word of God no matter how far he strays from the Bible. In these churches, the congregation has no power, the pastor is a dictator.

These so called “churches” should be investigated and their 501c3 status or whatever the code is that protects them from taxation is should be removed. I wonder if these folks are taught anything at all about Jesus Christ and Grace?
Do they participate in any sort of communion after being revved up by hate speech?

“Pophetic tradition.” My foot. Wright invents blood libels about White America inventing AIDS to kill Blacks. A venomous, racist liar is what he is.

Whites unaccustomed to the language and customs of black churches were understandably appalled.

Thank God, 'reverend' Moss, not all black churches are as hate filled as yours.

Apparently, 'reverend' Moss is as hateful as Wright.

I think there was something published the other day that indicated Wright had previously moved up his retirement date from the ministry..... IN ORDER TO SPEND HIS TIME WORKING WITH OBAMA’s CAMPAIGN.

Does anyone else recall where that info appeared on another thread here? IIRC it was that Wright was moving closer to Obama’s campaign before all this brouhaha, and Wright was moving out of his church ministry so that he could devote all his efforts to electing and guiding Obama. We need to find out if there are any interviews or statements out there describing Wright’s plans before this blew up, b/c I’m pretty sure he’d said he was going to devote himself to Obambi’s campaign.

Now of course Obama has packed him off to Africa to lay low and try to let this furor blow over.

Have you heard that “conservative” VA is leaning now to Oprah’s Obama? Is it those liberal federal employees or what, a longing for L. Douglas Wilder once again.

Kinda like that, you mean?

Can we agree on one set of rules for all to observe, brother?
