John McCain and Barack Obama: Two Inspiring Stories, One Clear Winner
North Star Writers Group ^ | March 21, 2008 | Jamie Weinstein

Even those who are ardent opponents of Barack Obama's candidacy must admit his March 18 speech on race in America was, at least in parts, exceptional. You can agree or disagree with aspects of the speech, even dismiss segments of it as his standard stump speech, but it is hard to deny the speech as a whole was well thought out and well executed.

The most inspiring part of his speech for me came when he discussed his background.

"I am the son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas," Obama told the assembled crowd and the television audience.

"I was raised with the help of a white grandfather who survived a Depression to serve in Patton's Army during World War II and a white grandmother who worked on a bomber assembly line at Fort Leavenworth while he was overseas. I've gone to some of the best schools in America and lived in one of the world's poorest nations. I am married to a black American who carries within her the blood of slaves and slave-owners – an inheritance we pass on to our two precious daughters. I have brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins, of every race and every hue, scattered across three continents, and for as long as I live, I will never forget that in no other country on Earth is my story even possible."

Yes, it is only in America that a man with Obama's background could seriously be considered for the highest office in the land. The Illinois senator went on to say that his story helps support the notion that the United States "is more than the sum of its parts – that out of many, we are truly one." Amen.

Yeah, very heroic. Throwing your heroic grandma under the Bus by comparing her to an angry hate-monger.

And yet he attends a “church” where the the culture throughout is that “whitey is evil.”

Neither one has ever created a dime’s worth of wealth or hired one person.

B. Hussein Obama, you are a traitor to your patriotic grandparents and to all of us as well.

I didn't hear any pundits refer to his remarks that way but thats how I took them. The pundits acted like the guy was honorable in showing how racism affected his life and lauded him for bringing race to the forefront.

I thought "what a coward to insert his grandmother into this thing to save his political ass".

"look my Pastor is a racist and hates America but my grandmother does too!" BHO

Well, as a “typical white person”, I’m offended that Barack Hussein Obama threw his grandmother under the bus and then backed over her again on the radio yesterday

Looks like Hillary is not the only one trying to get credit for someone else's accomplishments.

Obama could also say "My mom went slumming while trying to save the world and got knocked up. My rich white grandparents raised me in Hawaii and sent me to exclusive prep schools and then to Harvard. My only way to connect with black America was to attend a racist black church in Chicago and marry a racist black woman with ancestral ties to the slave days. I am just a lawyer/politician who uses other peoples experiences to give me credibility, much like my opponent Hillary Clinton. By the way I also have ties to my grandparents who fought for America at home and in Europe. They are also racists."

“Contrast this with McCain. McCain would not have associated himself with such an America-hater for 20 seconds, much less 20 years. His love affair with America is whole and pure. Despite all the service and sacrifice he and his family have already provided to this country, McCain says he owes more to America and “will never, never tire of the honor of serving her.”

Says it all.

I seriously doubt that.

The Democrats are in an awful position. If Obama does not get the nomination, African Americans are going to go ballistic. They certainly may not vote for McCain, but they won’t be voting with any enthusiasm for Hillary.

OTH, if Obama gets the nomination, this incident has completely destroyed his viability.

Plenty of voters welcome the opportunity to vote for a black (Republicans included). But the bloom is off the rose now and people have been shaken from their trance. There are plenty of Democrats who will not vote for Obama now (the ones we might call Reagan Democrats or the blue collar guys and gals), and could very well find McCain a more favorable option.

Soros loses.

McCain is ALSO a Soros-sponsored candidate (google “Reform Institute”). So if McCain wins, Soros wins; if either Democrat wins, Soros wins (he funds all three).

I honestly doubt that Barack Obama shares much of his former pastor's despicable views, but it shows terrible judgment that he not only tolerated Wright, but considered him like a family member.

I honestly have no doubt that he shares the views, although perhaps not as strong as the pastor's.
