A brief for Whitey (“We hear the grievances. Where’s the gratitude?”)
World Net Daily ^ | March 21, 2008 | Patrick J Buchanan

Posted on 03/21/2008 3:57:54 AM PDT by Conservative Vermont Vet

Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America.

Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.

Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the '60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.

This is the only way to break the stranglehold these racist bigots such as Wright have on the black community and the only way to free these people from the Black Theology plantation.

Gratitude, as a starting point and a worldview, is highly empowering. Gratitude wipes out victimhood. Victimhood = self-imposed slavery.

Just as soon as we find a spokesman who represents us all.

I know of a "spokesman" who perfectly represents your opinion ...

I bet you know who he is, too.

You have just pointed out another practical way that the pernicious effect of Wrightism holds a whole community back.

I’m beginning to think rather than finally demonstrate that racism has been transcended in America, Obama is going to end up setting the dialogue back by a few decades. This is horrible.

At some point, we need to say enough. If a person in this country is poor, and especially uneducated, he MUST bear personal responsibility for his situation. If he is physically or mentally disabled, the rest of us should help him, of course.

The esential problem here is one of personal responsibility, not race. Like those in the Middle East who pass on hatred of Israel to the next generation, Wright et al. do everything possible to teach the next generation that they have NO personal responsibility for the state of their lives.

We don't have a racial divide in this country. We have a divide between those whose community teaches, or at least pays reference to, personal responsibility and those whose community teaches that individuals are NOT responsible for themselves and their choices.

Victimhood = self-imposed slavery.

Personal responsibility = freedom to become.

2- My people got here in 1900. I have little interest in slavery and the Civil War. Blacks should only be hounding whites who were here prior to the Civil War

Stunning statement there. My 6th GGrandfather, from Scotland, landed in Virginia on a ship in 1696 as an indentured servant, brokered by a known English slave trader. And he spent years in that capacity until the land owners death. For this I have official records. Should I be hounded by the race hustlers, ya think?

These black churches are starting to sound like madrassas.

I think many Americans had no idea this kind of stuff spewed from pulpits week after week right in our midst.

That's a distinct possibility, it depends on the voices heard during the forthcoming "discussion". IMO race will be one of the major issues of the campaign, Obama has already legitimized the views of a racist like Wright, hopefully the injection of hate goes no further than that.

As I see it,

holding onto these grievances about

THINGS THAT AREN’T HAPPENING NOW

is simply a crutch and an excuse to fail.

It’s not skin color or racism in society that’s keeping people down, as demonstrated by the success of very dark people coming from Africa and succeeding in our country.

It is ‘pay-up white boy.’ For me, the payment came in the Civil War.

Pick up your mats. Resentment and whining are not useful tools for adult life.

I see your point, but it goes too far to claim there is a moral equivalence between these two observations of a non-cohesive America.

Maybe “whitey” will stand up on his hind legs and say “enough”!

You have affirmative action and TRILLIONS in wealth transfer payments. Enough. We see first generation African immigrants succeeding, so it isn’t skin color that’s holding you back, it’s your attitude and culture. Enough.

IN reality, there are maybe a handful of people who don't have a chip on their shoulder, and are willing to discuss racial matters in a non-emotional manner, where real progress can be made. Most, however, have an agenda that they will perpetuate to achieve their own ends - whether it is to remove competition, or assuage low self esteem - and try and destroy someone else due to disagreement.

The haters are the ones with the agenda to perpetuate the problem, since they benefit the most from the problem continuing.

The best way is to stop enabling dysfunctional people. No more handouts, no more special treatment, end it all now. Stand or fall on your own merits, and stop whining, because I'm not interested in hearing it any more

Forty years is more than enough time to see the fruits of the "Great Society" approach, and the fruits I see are moldy and full of maggots

We’ll see how it plays out. I think there’s a risk the conversation goes to “see what you did to us for a century”, the Obama rationalization for Wright, to “see what we’ve for you lately”, the Buchanan rant. You and Us being completely different individuals of course, different generations. This is the conversation Obama started, and just as the black community has Jesse Jackson, there are purveyors of hate on the other side willing to pick up the tune.

I hope so sincerely.

While I disagree vehemently with his politics, I was very hopeful that Obama’s successful run (whether it ended in victory of not-—hopefully, not, from a policy standpoint) would be a wonderful step forward in demonstrating that—at last—the race-baiters are officially over.

Sadly, it seems he is going to entrench the hate even more. I am sorely disappointed that he didn’t have the guts to completely renounce this garbage, trumpet the only thing that brings freedom and prosperity-—that is, personal responsibility-—and even regurgitate all the old crapola about the victim community needed ever more government handouts.

It’s truly disappointing.

Pat needs to bone up on liberal racial catechism - black social dysfunctions, including crime, illegitimacy, etc are a result of the destruction of the black family dating back to the slave era & Jim Crow period.

Therefore, it's whitey's fault for the overall end result and as a logical target for this pent-up rage & resentment. It's really a beautiful strategy - under no possible scenario are the instigators to be held accountable. That would be tantamount to "blaming the victim".

Amen.

The American distinctive is a personal worldview that revolves around personal responsibility-—the “rugged individual.”

That’s what, fundamentally, makes Wright et al’s screed quintessentially anti- and un-American. It denies and decries any and every sentiment of what it actually, practicably means in a day-to-day way to be American. To wit, to live one’s life and make one’s choices with a profound sense and PRIDE in personal responsibility-—and to resist any other “answer” to one’s situation.

Or, this will be the first step in finally identifying the cancer that is infecting the host, and it can be finally cut out. Remember, BO has legions of the younger generation who never had the problems of the 60's and 70's. They heard about it, but never had to deal with it in such force. Will they swollow the empty and firey rhetoric, or will they use their brains, and grow past the empty blovation....

“There is nothing you can say that will not be twisted to become some racial insult.”

Worse... I have this gut feeling that while we’re out here chortling about the possibility of riots at the Democratic convention, we’re in for more trouble than we know AFTER the election. What happens if Obama runs against McCain... and loses? Anyone who votes for him is going to be considered racist by some. Then, as Rush pointed out last week, if Obama wins, what’s going to happen in Congress? Are any proposals he puts forth going to automatically be rubber stamped... because he’s black, and to disagree with him is “racist”? Far from easing race relations in this country, it looks like Obama’s candidacy has actually made things worse.

Don't take me literally here. I'm simply making a point. There should be no reparations of any kind.. Neither of us should be hounded by race hustlers

But as far as Civil War and slavery history I have little interest in it mostly because "my people" got here in 1900. I am interested in the American Revolution and colonial history but not slavery and the war of North and South

Now lets follow this further. Mexicans and Hispanics have even less sympathy or care about Blacks and their self references to slavery because 95% of Hispanics got here after WW2. This accounts in part for anti Black racism by Hispanics. They can't be guilt tripped. They just got here
