Maybe its a vast right-wing conspiracy, or maybe people really want a choice.
Either way, its making work for the Lackawanna County Voter Registration Office.
In the three weeks since it became clear Pennsylvanians would have a meaningful role in selecting the Democratic presidential nominee, 832 county voters Republicans, independents or third-party members have switched their registration to the Democratic Party.
The number who have gone the other way, from Democrat, independent or third party to the Republican camp, is just 27. Thats a ratio of more than 30 to 1 in favor of the Democrats.
Theres obviously interest in the Democratic primary, elections director Maryann Spellman Young said. For a primary election, its pretty unprecedented.
The last day to register for the April 22 primary is Monday.
As the deadline nears, the office has been processing hundreds of registration applications daily.
Some represent new voters, and some are address changes, but the bulk are people switching affiliation so they can vote in the Democratic primary between Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama, said Marion Medalis, deputy director for registration.
In Luzerne County, the ratio of voters changing parties favors Democrats 18 to 1.
Observers say one reason for the switching could be political. Some conservatives have been urging Republicans to vote for Mrs. Clinton, reasoning she will be easier to beat in November.

Operation Chaos in full swing.
KAOS (or the DEM party) is unable to withstand the efforts of agents 86 & 99
Whats good for the goose...;)
Less electoral votes for hillary is the goal here.
McCain has less chance than my cat of beating hillary, and truth be told, if the GOP cannot beat an Obama then they cannot beat anyone including V. Putin or the late Chairman Mao.
We can beat Obama.
Exactly, it’s not because Hillary will be easier to beat, it’s to keep the “contest” and squabbling going.
bttt LOL
But what the polls don't show is the huge numbers of working class white male Democrats who plan to vote for McCain in November.
The media keeps telling us our nation is ready for either a female or a black president. And for Republicans that is true. But for working class white Democrats that is not true.
John McCain has to be the luckiest Republican since Teddy Roosevelt.
Luck is what a fool calls it when Go gives him a break
Great! Half of the Republicans that switch are going to vote for Hillary and half for Obama because noone yet knows who will be easiest to beat in November.
The strategery is gettin' outta hand.

Just from my own experience, I know a lot of my democrat friends and family say, “I’m voting for Hillary in the primary, but come the general election I’m voting for McCain”. McCain has a huge draw with conservative-leaning democrats. I’m not in the McCain cheering section, truth-be-told he was in my bottom two out of the original crew of candidates, but the ability of McCain to peel-off democrats is a definite advantage against whichever extremely liberal candidate the democrats put up.
I’ve noticed that, as well.
Probably ending up even in the wash.
Other reasons are...?
My mouth would never let me utter those words and my hand would never be able to mark the ballot.
Wait a minute, didn’t the media claim that Rush had lost his ability to influence Conservatives (and other Repubicans)? I would say that Operation Chaos is proving to be very, very successful and that Rush is still a major player. HA!
You must have never read the election returns or talked to any democrats or independents.
First of all McCain decided in 2001 that he was going to run in 2008 and he knew back then his main opponent would be Hillary Clinton. To defeat Hillary anyone with a brain would know McCain would need to move to the left. He would have to take male independents and some male Democrats from Hillary to replace all the Conservatives still trying to teach the Republicans a lesson.
The cost would be a lot of Republican conservatives who were in the back room pouting about the Mexican invasion and all the Bush treachery they despise. They are not going to vote anyway.
But what less than bright people don't understand is that for every independent and Democrat that McCain takes away from Hillary or Obama, he can afford to lose 2 conservatives.
Here is the math. Take Ohio for example. No one gets to be president without winning Ohio. Bush won it in 2004 by 120 thou and votes. But McCain by beating Fred Thompson and creating McCain Feingold was certain to lose 100,000 Conservatives votes. And if he refused to kiss their butts McCain was certain to lose 200 thousand more for a right wing total of minus 300,000 votes.
But by turning left for 6 years he would pick up 150 thousand independent votes that Bush did not get.
Bush in 2004 got 2.85 million votes in Ohio. And now we say that McCain will lose 300 thousand of them. That gives McCain 2.55 million. In 2004 Kerry got 2.74 million votes. But Hillary is too liberal for 150 thousand of those independents. Obama has pushed her to be to0 liberal for as many as 200 thousand Independents. But lets just subtract 150 thousand of them from Hillary and that gives Hillary 2.59 million votes. Now add those independents to McCain's total and he is at 2.7 million votes.
Take away the white male working class Democrats who will not vote for a woman or a Republican and we have Hillary at 2.4 million to McCain's 2.7 million. McCain wins Ohio, Pa, Michigan and all of the important swing states.
What the media will do if Obama gets the nomination is go positive for Obama 24/7 and negative as can be on McCain 24/7. They will make Obama our next president. McCain nor anyone else could survive the constant media attacks and constant Obama praise.
But if Hillary takes down the Media's beloved Obmama they will go negative on Hillary 24/7 just to teach the Damned Democrats that they should have nominated the Media's beloved Obama.
If Hilary manages to take Obama down, the media will hate her, and just might fall back in love with the Straight Talk Express... just to teach the damned black hating Democrats a lesson.
Your mistake is to think that McCain needs the conservatives. He does not. He needs the independents, the RINOS and some moderate Democrats. If Hillary is his opponent, he will get all three.
wymyn, chilren, illegals and dead rats voting most often, one for hellary, one for osbama....
