Former conservative colleagues in the House of Representatives are boosting Christopher Cox, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission since 2005, to be Sen. John McCain's vice presidential running mate.
A White House aide under President Reagan, Cox served 16 years as a congressman from Newport Beach and was chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee. He was named as a federal appeals court judge to begin President George W. Bush's administration, but withdrew after Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer of California announced her opposition.
Former Rep. Rob Portman of Ohio, who also was a member of the House leadership before joining the Bush Cabinet, is being promoted for vice president by Washington insiders. But Cox's backers in the House argue that Portman lacks Cox's stature in the conservative movement, which they say McCain needs.

EV, you're asking people, out of "purity", to also pick the lesser of two evils: Stay home and help the stupid, incompetent Dem win the election and lose the war, or go vote third party/write-in/down-ticket only and help the stupid, incompetent Dem win the election and lose the war.
That's not conservatism, that's not principle, that's stupidity.
The VP will likely be the incumbent in 2012 or 2016.
You hit the nail right on the head.
Pretty sad when someone starts making Jesse Jackson look like a uniter.
yes but he has to win first and mccain isn’t going to win with lindsay on the ticket. And what’s the point? He won’t deliver any new states, he’s not a moderate or a liberal but he still won’t appeal to conservatives.
Amen again. And BUMP!
And don't forget the "Gang of 13."
I think you have a point (and I think Graham would be sticking the thumb in the eye of conservatives again) but You’re making the mistake of thinking Lindsay is bright.
Obama will deliver PA. to the Republicans.
The gang of 14 actually got judges through. I hated it at the time, but the results ended up being good. And as conservatives, we’re supposed to be the ones who care about results.

I have this nagging suspicion that Kasich has something lurking in his background. Why would a crongressman ,who was a major rising star, leave his seat at such a young age. I’ve always liked him but something isn’t quite right there.
On the contrary, at every opportunity, I've urged every patriotic sovereign American citizen to get into the arena.
But that urging has never been to support policies or candidates that are responsible for destroying self-government in America. And it never will be.
If the Republican Party is determined to become the Evil Party II, we're left with no choice but to build a good alternative. That's what Americans do, and have always done. It's our heritage as a people.
No, you're just urging a temper tantrum that will hand the White House to an anti-semitic chihuahua for eight years. I know you don't think that's what you're doing, but it is and I'm not going to cut you any slack. What you're advocating is as bad as staying home, with the added disadvantage that those who follow you will have made their stupidity a matter of verifiable record via vote totals.
Try Lindsey Graham, or Martinez.
There are more illegals that need pandering to than there are conservatives.
That would all be fine, except for the fact that you’ve allowed your position to degrade so far that you’re now supporting JOHN MCCAIN.
So, you’re going to be too busy futilely defending McCain’s love for the left, and visceral hatred for the right, to have much time to deal with me.
It’s pretty clear from the man’s record that he’s going to put you in at least two or three indefensible positions per week, at least.
Have fun.
You can think of it this way: Essentially the Democrat Party has split and one half has merged with the Republican Party. So by voting ‘lesser of two evils’, you’re voting for the same people you used to be voting against - completely unprincipled...stupidity.
Yes, I've decided that if a person too liberal for my tastes is going to take office, I'd prefer to support the one who is sane, able on foreign policy, committed to destroying our terrorist enemies and not an anti-semitic idiot.
Silly me, acting like this politics stuff really affects anything in the real world.
Ah yes...that's why George W. Bush (hardly Reagan, is he?) would be welcomed with open arms if he switched parties and asked to give the keynote speech in Denver.
The idea that there's no difference between to two parties is for children. Get a grip.
90%+ of Californian voters probably don't even know who Chris Cox is. Those who do mostly know he's been soft on illegal-immigration enforcement. This doesn't help McCain--or California, IMO.
