As most of you will know, the U.S. Supreme Court held oral argument in District of Columbia v. Heller, the D.C. gun ban case. An extremely important Second Amendment case; in fact, the first of its kind in generations (about 70 years).
The transcript of the argument is available here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1987832/posts
But what is truly interesting, is to see the listing of amicus: that is, third parties who have submitted "friend of the court" briefs, advocating one side or the other of the issue.
Following is the list. It is arranged first according to those who support the ban - and then, those who oppose the ban. Many of the usual suspects can be seen supporting the ban - although this part of the list is noticable shorter than the other.
Also, notice that many members of Congress have signed on to one side or the other, in their own briefs. FAR more are advocating in opposition to than in support of the gun ban. Only a handful of Reps supported the ban, and no Senators. MANY in both Houses opposed the ban. (Again, see the list below)
Neither Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, nor Barack Hussein Obama had the guts to support either side. John McCain, of course, opposed the ban.
LISTING BEGINS ::

Bump.
Didn’t the Bush Administration submit a brief supporting the ban?
Yep!
some surprises-i didn’t think Feingold supported firearms rights-i listened to the arguments and to my amazement Ginsburg seemed to take it as a given that individuals could own firearms-she was interested in the idea of licensing handguns-and it didn’t sound like she was pushing that concept as very restrictive-now i oppose licensing guns at all,but coming from a miserable left winger like her it was encouraging-Thomas didn’t seem to be very interested-the most anti-gun sounding were Breyer and Stevens-Lawrence Tribe of Harvard has shown integrity by saying that he opposes gun ownership politicaally,but he nevertheless thinks it is guaranteed by the 2nd amendment
Fuss Feingold against the DC ban????
Thanks. I noticed that it is not on the list and was wondering if I was mistaken. This decision will tell us if Bush’s Presidencey was a success because it we will find out where his appointees stand on our fundamental rights as Americans.
Someone should (1) remind this disgraceful group who they work for and (2) fire any of them still on the public payroll
Looks like we had the libs outgunned on this one...
Maybe the “Blue Dog” Dem movement had some impact on the libs. Maybe the Dems are beginning to get it - Joe Six Pack doesn’t like folks messing with his gun rights and neither do I.
They submitted a brief that supposedly supported the individual RKBA but also wanted powers so broad that the federal government could constitutionally ban every single gun in the US, effectively rendering it a privilege that can be revoked by the government for any or no reason.
