It's over. Obama is the nominee.
The San Diego Union-Tribune ^ | March 18, 2008 | Chris Reed

It was extremely unlikely that Hillary Clinton was going to overcome Barack Obama's lead in delegates, states and total votes and take the Democratic nomination, but Obama's speech this morning -- graceful, thoughtful, nuanced, sweeping, challenging, unprecedented -- pretty much wiped out any chance at all. It was a speech Hillary could never have given -- really, few U.S. politicians ever could have given.

I write this not just because I think this will dampen the Rev. Wright controversy. I write this because Obama did an extraordinary job of presenting himself as the candidate of "the better angels of our nature," to use the phrase from Abraham Lincoln's first inaugural address. His speech isn't just inspirational to millions of voters who are tired of cynicism and division. I think many in the political media will see it as redemptive on personal grounds. Maybe they really aren't spending their careers in swampland.

Which not-so-coincidentally is the name of Time magazine's fine national politics blog.

Incidentally, I’m not a 24/7 so I had to read through the transcript ... but even the thick paragraphs were worth it.

Rush's transcripts are up for a week for all to read...no need to be a 24/7 subscriber. It was a good show today...Rush was on fire, especially with this caller:

Let Go of the Bitterness, Billy
A caller hangs on to resentment from 1966.

I was referring to having to read the small print, densely packed paragraphs. Appreciate the further links.

Obama is toast. Stick a fork in him.

Today you watched him self-destruct.

O’Bambino is the nominee and the next Prez, as it is taken for granted that Bob Dole 2008 is going to lose just like his dad, Bob Dole 1996 did, what with the economy, the dollar, the surge working so great 5 years into the three week war, the mortgage market collapse.

Lots of adoring, rich, white people. What's the attraction?

Who are the people that think one person, one man is going to save them or our whole society or world. Except in extraordinary circumstances when you have a Churchill or a Washington does that situation arise. Who are the people who think we NEED someone like that now? What are they thinking?

And why are they thinking this so blindly about such an empty cipher such as O’Baloney?

Because he is black? He is biracial. that it what makes hinm dangerous!

You missed my point entirely. Black is a state of mind, not the color of your skin. Obama has demonstrated he is Black first, American second, and that is unacceptable to me.

I think skin color is irrelevant, while Barak obviously thinks it's very important. I disagree with that attitude, and will vote accordingly.

Hold your horses, McCain will never bring this up and will disavow and distance himself from anyone who does. McCain will not attack Hussein he has said so himself.

It would damage McCain if he did bring it up, so he shouldn't. That's our job.

McCain needs to distance himself from the issue, and we need to make a lot of noise about it. Everyone has their job to do in order to defeat Democrats.

I agree. But I thought McCain had guts. I thought he was a warrior. What a pity.
