Ice "Bergs" on Lake Michigan - Updated with new images!
noaa ^ | March 13 | Marc Kavinsky

Posted on 03/18/2008 9:36:36 AM PDT by george76

The relatively warmer temperatures and sunshine of the last several days have caused areas of ice that had been affixed to the western shore of Lake Michigan off the Racine and Kenosha areas to break away from the shore.

The blustery west winds on Tuesday have carried these floating ice "bergs" several miles away from shore.

Here is a high resolution visible satellite image from 102 pm CDT from March 10th.

No, typically last week was a safe time to plant tomatoes.

Bush’s fault. Hey, these ice “calves” are going to melt and make Lake Michigan overflow its shores. ;’)

I still have four foot snow piles in my yard and I’m darn tired of winter right now

I know what you mean. We have had so many Santana wind days here in LA. that it's been hard to sail my yacht.

The worst part is it's often warm and balmy but the winds are blowing the wrong way making it a longer slog back from Catalina Island.

Oh we'll hang in there and we will get through this hell soon Freeper.

Regards

Is it too soon to set out the tomatoes and peppers?

Never to early to set out iceburg lettuce.

Our yacht has been docked permanently in Ventura lately. Everytime I plan a trip they start talking about snow on the Grapevine. Darn global warming.

ARE SOLE,

When Al Gore's global warming hits and my "neighborhood" is enjoying the wonderful breezes in the middle of winter, I shall think of you in what will then be the desert (LA) and simply smile.

Cheers....ig

I don't think wind driven ice packs/ridges qualifies as an Ice Berg...an ice berg, is multi year accumulation of ice, and snow....

When that happens IG, you'll get to shake hands with Wisconsin's newest resident. Then we can form a militia to keep the other LA. riff raff out.

Mama always said...when life hands you ice bergs, chip off a chunk and pass the Scotch!

Thanks for the ping. Wish I had reason to go down to the lakeshore (about a 1.5 hour drive) but alas, I do not.

i listened for a few minutes to the “forecast earth” (i think) the program on the “weather channel” where they continue to put forth the sham of global warming

the program was about the prospect of napa valley losing their wine industry to “global warming” and how it would have to relocate northward to oregon and what some of the growers were doing to combat this global warming

shut it off, rarely look at TWC anymore

“What is your break up guess?”

When I was a kid the local tavarn up at our cabin would park an old car out on the ice and there would be the lottery to pick the date when it would drop through. I imagine every lake with a bar on it did this.

Something tells me they don’t get by with such things now-a-days!

Did Al Gore not also flunk “Divinity School?” If Al Gore does not have a disordered mind, then his followers certainly do!

I remember a trip from Oklahoma to SC I took in the late 80’s I believe and we crossed the Mississippi river at Memphis. The river was almost clogged with ice. Damndest thing I ever saw. That would be about in the middle of the great warming trend we’re supposed to be in now.
