The relatively warmer temperatures and sunshine of the last several days have caused areas of ice that had been affixed to the western shore of Lake Michigan off the Racine and Kenosha areas to break away from the shore.
The blustery west winds on Tuesday have carried these floating ice "bergs" several miles away from shore.
Here is a high resolution visible satellite image from 102 pm CDT from March 10th.

It’s zero today and probably -10 tonight with snow possible. This posting of ice and snow is cruel.
Sunshine Associated with Warm Weather. Now THAT’s a Headline!
Would it cheer you up to know it is 77° in Houston?
What is your break up guess ?
I’d go with Ice ‘Dunes’....... LOL
Damn you, Global Warming!!!
Sunshine Associated with Warm Weather. Now THATs a Headline!LOL!
Clearly the fault of Global warming
Yes. Is it too soon to set out the tomatoes and peppers?
Ice bergs ?
The lake was more extensively frozen over this year — pretty much as far out as you can see — and it stayed around for a lot longer than I have seen it in many years. That’s a good thing, because I understand that the milder winters we’ve had the past few years resulted in less ice and more evaporation, which caused the water to be more shallow in harbor areas, which meant ships had to run with lighter loads.
FWIW, this sort of thing is called an Ice Floe ... it consist of lake surface ice that either formed free floating, or broke off from shore (in which case, it used to be shore-fast ice).
An iceberg is a piece of floating ice that broke off (calved from) a glacier. It formed as land ice, distant from the sea, and flowed downhill to the sea.
The Alaskan RightWhale is right....while our winters are nothing like Alaska’s, this one in particular has sucked...yes sucked. I live north of Milwaukee, while much now has melted lately, I still have four foot snow piles in my yard and I’m darn tired of winter right now.
They’re pretty much gone by now.
I wish I’d known about the icebergs earlier, when I was planning an Eskimo funeral.
Gave up on that years ago. It will either be early or late, that is about as far out on the limb as I wish to go anymore.

LOL! Remember about 8 years or so ago, when the universal excuse was “Y2K”?
