Greenburg Gives 2nd Amendment Fair Shot [Flying Pig Alert]
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Could this photo be a first? It shows a card-carrying member of the MSM shooting a handgun. That's Jan Crawford Greenburg, an ABC News legal correspondent. The clip, pun intended, of Greenburg on the firing range was part of a segment she narrated on today's Good Morning America on a case to be argued before the Supreme Court today. At issue is the District of Columbia's law banning handguns. The case comes before the Supreme Court after the U.S. Court of Appeals for D.C. invalidated the law. The decision is anticipated to be a landmark one since it could be the first time the Supreme Court passes on the issue of whether the Second Amendment creates an individual right to bear arms.

The segment was surprisingly respectful of the right to bear arms. Beyond Greenburg's personal marksmanship demonstration, the segment began with a sympathetic depiction of the plight of Shelly Parker, the DC resident who started the case by suing the city over its gun ban.

A photo I'd never expect to see: an MSMer shooting a handgun.

The NRA should run a nice, well equipped range in downtown Washington DC and Midtown Manhattan, to which they can invite all kinds of “opinion makers” to come down and try out various guns, learn gun safety, and practice marksmanship, all for free. It would do more to change attitudes than anything else they can do.

People fear the unfamiliar. The NRA should be working to make guns familiar to the people who write our laws and control our media empires.

You’re a pretty tough audience. I’d say this was Greenburg’s decision, probably swimming against the current at GMA, rather than an ABC stunt.

I’d say she’s shot before as her grip was good and she didn’t flinch even though she was using a large caliber gun. Looked to me like a Smith and Wesson 626.

Oh snap, at first glance I thought the headline read “Ginsburg”. When I read more carefully and saw Greenburg I stopped laughing.

That wouldn’t be a flying pig, it would be an outright miracle ;-)

I used to watch her when she was SCotUS analyst on PBS - good looking and SMART - great combo. I never noticed that she was particularly biased, and her SCotUS reports seemed to be “just the facts” quality. Her replacement on PBS gomes across as, maybe, half the mind that Greenberg is.

She is definitely on my “books to buy someday” list.

For some reason that fact that she’s a gunny doesn’t surprise me.

Just my two cents...

She’s a southerner and a graduate of the University of Alabama.

Not to be too big a PITA, but I've got a problem with this...

The decision is anticipated to be a landmark one since it could be the first time the Supreme Court passes on the issue of whether the Second Amendment creates an individual right to bear arms.

The Bill of Rights doesn't "create" rights. It's supposed to protect G-d given rights from being taken away by government. We all have a G-d given right to keep and bear arms. The question is will the government allow us to exercise that right? And given rulings like McCain/Feingold and ... Well, I can't remember the name of that eminent domain case that Justice Thomas argued against so eloquently... I fear for our rights.

Why wouldn't Ginsburg carry a firearm in Washington, DC. Leftists never have a problem doing those things they won't allow the common masses to do. We can't be trusted to make our own decisions. It's because they know what's best for the rest of us... Because they're better than us, you know?

It’s the Declaration of Independence that speaks of the Creator endowing people with unalienable rights. Not sure that applies to something not even in the original Constitution. The Bible surely recognizes the right of self-defense, but it seems a bit of a stretch to me to say there’s a specific God-given right to bear arms.

whether she fired the shots is still in question... the cu of the revolver firing could have been anyone... it is my bet that the range owner brought in a stunt shooter... someone who doesn’t detest guns like greenberg does.

i didn’t see a ring on her left hand...but hey, it’s not like the msm would fake a story.

the report seemed fair until you realize that mayor nagin wannabe wasn’t asked about law abiding citizens not being able to protect themselves.

I think you’re being unduly harsh on Greenburg. Nothing in the piece suggests she’s arrogating to herself a right she wouldn’t want to see others have. To the contrary I see her little demonstration as not-so-subtle support for the right of all law-abiding citizens to bear arms.

I am amazed at how cynical some people are being here. What is your evidence that she detests guns?

the constitution enumerates some rights endowed by our creator... as a founding document of our nation, the declaration of independence has to be considered along with the bill or rights and the constitution... they are what defines america. the federalist papers also explain that the bill of rights is not a defined list of all our rights but the protection of just an enumerated few...

there was fear of your kind of thinking being the norm when it was written... that those listed would be only those that were protected.
