“Send lawyers, guns and money; all Hell has broken loose.”

Not to quibble, but the line is, "Send lawyers, guns and money; the sh*t has hit the fan."

I have produced a few WZ Tribute concerts in the Santa Barbara area. The one I did in Santa Ynez last December featured Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Mike Campbell from the Heartbreakers. He sang (Yes sang!) "Sentimental Hygiene" and "My Sh*ts F*cked Up". Senator Cohen was in the audience. I tried to get some Republicans in on the photo opportunity but there were no takers. I wish the GOP was a little cooler.

I Googled the lines in several permutations, so I know my version is apocryphal. And, yes, I know the second line you cite. But my column is carried in a number of places where the word "sh*t" is verboten.

Yes, I can understand why your potential photo op was not taken up. Whenever we meet, I'll tell you about a photo op that I avoided in 1993 in Colorado Springs.

I knew YOU would have beaten me to it!

I wish the GOP was a little cooler.

You and me, both.

Thanks for keeping Warren’s memory alive. One of the true, irreplaceable greats.

” I wish the GOP was a little cooler.”

Wish in one hand, and spit in the other, and see which one gets full first...

(Which probably isn't the way you first heard it, either, but I'm a grade-school teacher.)

That said, I loved “Lawyers, Guns, and Money” myself, and although I didn't and don't own another of his albums, I do have the one with that and Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner. He had a quirky, black sense of humor that I still miss, and no body is as funny.

I stumbled across this thread because I was reading one about Congressman Billybob. I didn’t become aquainted with Warren Zevon’s music until he was near death and only then because I wanted to hear Dwight Yoakam sing Dirty Life and Times. I can’t believe I missed out all those years because he wrote some amazing music. I love Studebaker. I’ve had days like that, fortunatley none recently. It must have been great to know him personally.
