One set of facts, two diametrically different NYT op-eds addressing it this morning. The fact: that Barack Obama is backpedaling as fast as he can away from the hateful anti-American rhetoric of Jeremiah Wright. The op-eds: Bill Kristol's, offering a dose of sobering realism about Obama's feet that if not of clay, then are certainly those of a garden-variety politician.
And then there's Roger Cohen's, the Obama fan who, in a bit of breathtaking revisionism, would explain away Barack's moonwalk on the theory the candidate has simply "grown beyond" the mettlesome minister. And Cohen's just fine with that.
Compare and contrast . . .

Barack’s moved on from Wright, why can’t you? Ping to Today show list.
It’s all so ugly, infuriating and sorrowful..
Ten+...
It's also very illustrative of how Osama/Obama uses this sort of hate filled rhetoric at this church to show he is "down with the struggle" when it benefits him in the community he wants to garner votes from. Then, he distances himself from it when it doesn't benefit him. Sorry, Obama, you can't have it both ways.....
"Reverend" Wright is a racist of the most foul kind imaginable. He uses racism and hate to pad his own wallet and make himself tall in the eyes of his flock, not at all unlike the tactics used by Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. We've all just gotten a very good look at how shallow Obama really is.
Racism will never die in this country as long as there are folks like Wright, Jackson and Sharpton around to fan the fire, along with enablers like Obama and his anti-American, racist wife......
Words have meaning.
Now they want us to understand that it is all just blah, blah, blah, and nobody believes it. That is supposed to be enough for us.
We can't just forget about it and "move on" because Obama has willfully and willingly sat under Wright the bigot's teaching and advice for over two decades and had him as an active member of his campaign until the truth finally came to light. Now, after over 22 YEARS Obama has supposedly thrown Wright under the bus and expects us to believe racist Wright no longer has, nor ever had ANY influence on the way Obama thinks or would conduct policy. That is an impossible conclusion to try and wring from the facts and they do not jibe with reality:
You are what you eat, you are what you listen to and subscribe to, you ARE influenced by those whom you chose to associate with and who mentor and advise you whether it be spiritually or otherwise.
The Obama toadies can plead all they like for us to "move on" but the American people will not participate in the willful suspension of belief and reality in order to overlook reality: Wright, Obama's mentor is nothing but an anti Semitic, anti American black racist bigot and that speaks volumes about what Obama really believes and how he would act IF he got the power to do so
The one thing that has been glossed over in this is the excuse that this is normal. Most black churches have this kind of preacher. Well, there are two ways to go with this. Either that line of thinking is true (which I don’t believe) then we have a more serious problem in this country than I believed. Or it’s false and blacks in this country should be supremely insulted by this comment.
While Obama's up against Hillary it won't be that big a deal - dems aren't exactly flag wavers - - but against McCain, Obama will look bad.
Cannot add anything better than that. Well said.
Two things:
This does matter because as Obama himself said, words mean something.
Obama keeps saying that it doesn’t matter because Wright is retired now. I’d love to hear the typical sermon from the new preacher. Does anyone seriously believe that someone taking over that Church does not have the same views as Wright?
In my remodeling business I am often a fly on the wall while performing my job duties. People get so used to me that they forget I'm there and speak their mind during their normal conversations with others. I can't believe the misinformation that circulates in some Black circles. We're talking church going, praise the Lord folks.
They truly believe in a "vast white wing conspiracy".
You may re-use that. ;>)
Since Obama is a typical smarmy politician in the Democrat mold, we must parse this statement as if it were uttered by a Clinton...
the statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy... Since this refers to a small number specific statements that are on video clips all over YouTube, it does not deny the possiblility that Obama heard other, equally outrageous statements while attending Wright's church.
were not statements I personally heard him preach... This leaves open the possibility that Obama heard these statements, but not in person. He states in his own autobiographical books that he listened to tapes of Wright's rantings while studying at Harvard. How many of these idiotic statments were on these tapes?
while I sat in the pews of Trinity. At first glance, that "sat in the pews" bit looks like an insignificant bit of folksy fluff, but it leaves open the possibility that Obama heard these things while standing, or perhaps sitting on a chair.
Now, perhaps I am reading too much into this statement, but Obama is a skilled politician and a lawyer. He is adept with words, and is surely being exquisitely careful in what he says the last few days. He is looking for a way out of this mess, and if a little Clintonian phrase parsing is what it will take, he is certainly up to the task.
When you get beyond the rhetoric and generalities and begin to focus you are making progress, reverend
Bill did us just like he did Monica Lewinsky - Reverend Wright.
Wright on reverend. We are fortunate that we can still vote them out of office.

Yep, especially when they are outright lies, such as the origin of the AIDS virus, or the source of various illicit drugs that are consumed by the black community, or the intent of the creation of the various "three strikes" laws. What really amazes me is the rhetoric this "Reverend" uses when obviously there were children present. Yet another reason why I fear for the future of this nation......
After Katrina I was was driving through Atlanta and black radio said white America did Katrina so they could get the blacks out of New Orleans they are so out of touch with America.
