Sen. John McCain and his staff have been adamant for days that his upcoming overseas trip to Britain, France and Israel is not political.
/snip
...Apparently, though, there will still be room for fundraising.
McCain's campaign has sent out an invitation for a March 20 luncheon at Spencer House -- the neo-classical home built for an ancestor of Diana, the late Princess of Wales -- "by kind permission of Lord Rothschild OM GBE and the Hon. Nathaniel Rothschild."
The price to attend is $1000 to $2,300. And the dress code for the event? "Lounge suits" -- British for business attire.
Jill Hazelbaker, McCain's campaign spokeswoman, said today that Congress will be reimbursed for the political portions of the trip.
The campaign is paying for McCain's flight home, since he is flying separately from the rest of the Congressional delegation.
"We are also paying for the fundraiser and his hotel that evening in London," Hazelbaker said. "We will reimburse the Treasury for the cost of a flight to London."

I smell carbon credits.
John Bull, meet John “Bull”.
I guess the WaPo has to do something to get Jeremiah Wright off of the front page.
“Bull”
There’s going to be a lot of “bull” on the 20th.
Especially those “Americans” who show up with the cash. Could be a Hillary/Chinese money type funding scheme where the Brit govt/banks bundle money via American proxies.
More Bull: McCain talking about “climate change” and “international cooperation”, the latter code words for cap and trade. Heck, he may feel secure enough to say “cap and trade.”
It’s not on their front page, or any page.
It’s in their blog.
No worries from the dem side, they’re locked into cap and trade too, probably will travel to London also for money.
“I guess the WaPo has to do something to get Jeremiah Wright off of the front page.”
So they “forced” McBoob to do a fundraiser overseas?
Me, too. Tony Blair helped Arnold before launch his "Global Warming Solutions Act" in California and later, similar legislation with Crist in Florida. Now they are getting ready to take it nationwide with McCain. The mantra is very much the same ("good for the economy"... "green technologies"...). The Rothschild clan also had meetings with Arnie (and his buddy Warren Buffett) before being elected.
“John Bull, meet John Bull.”
Ohh, now I get it. /density
A+ funny.
Kinda like the Dixie Chicks, eh? Playing Europe because they can’t get a gig at home...
I guess the R in RMSP actually stands for Rothschild. ;-)
It would help explain a lot about party politic of late.
Another McUkraine connection
“In five short years, the man in line to be the fifth Baron Rothschild is close to becoming a billionaire through a web of private equity investments in Ukraine, Eastern Europe and most significant, his partnership stake in Atticus Capital, the fast-growing $14 billion hedge fund.”
“I guess the R in RMSP actually stands for Rothschild. ;-)”
Lol.
Actually, it all of ‘em in England, here its Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, even the Bank of America leader piped up about cap and trade recently.
Mr. Rothschild is a principal adviser to Oleg Deripaska, one of the richest oligarchs in Russia and the owner of the aluminum giant Rusal, which recently merged with two other companies to create the worlds largest aluminum company. Mr. Rothschild received no public credit despite having played a crucial role in getting the deal done.Remember Mr. Deripaska? Google deripaska mccain
Of course, only American citizens will be allowed to contribute to McPain's campaign.
Otherwise, it would be a violation of McCain-Feingold...

He admitted, I do miss Tony Blair Americas staunchest friend over Iraq but said he regarded Gordon Brown, the prime minister, as a fine man whom he had met on the international conference circuit. He predicted they would bond over the issue of global warming.
McCain is a passionate environmentalist, who takes the threat of climate change seriously. I know its a prime issue for Gordon Brown as well as Tony Blair and Im expecting him to raise the issue with me, he said. Friends believe it will be a mood-changer for Americas reputation in Europe, which soured when Bush refused to sign the Kyoto protocol early on in his presidency.
The meeting is strictly supposed to be about national security McCain is coming here as a member of the Senate armed services committee rather than a presidential candidate but no matter. There is a very real connection between oil at $109 a barrel and national security, he said. We are sending nearly half our trade deficit to countries that do not like us very much and some of it is ending up in the hands of terrorists. Thats a fact.
If America and Europe do not lessen their dependence on oil, he wondered: What happens if there is a cataclysmic event which cuts off this supply?
