Attacks on his church trouble Obama
Chicago Sun Times ^ | 3/15/08 | Mary Mitchell

When Sen. Barack Obama joined Trinity United Church of Christ 20 years ago, little did he know that the church’s charismatic pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., would become a flashpoint in a Democratic presidential primary.

Wright, an activist pastor who brought the South Side church from a 85-member congregation to an 8,000-member mega-church, has been under constant attack on Fox News’ “Hannity & Colmes” as a “cult” and “separatist” church.

In an interview, Obama told the Chicago Sun-Times that, despite the controversy swirling around Wright over racial comments he made from the pulpit about Sen. Hillary Clinton, he is not abandoning his church.

“We are still members of the church,” Obama said.

At the same time, Obama strongly condemned the racially explosive language attributed to Wright.

“The particular statements that have been pulled out of Rev. Wright’s sermons are ones that I profoundly disagree with,” Obama said, adding that he has never been at Trinity when Wright made similar remarks.

“I have felt frustrated by how the church has been characterized and by the suggestion that this is somehow a separatist church and by other statements made on these talk shows,” he said.

“Anybody who has been to the church knows this is a terrific, welcoming church,” Obama noted. Trinity “is a wonderful faith community that has done very positive things in the community and also in my life.”

Obama said, adding that he has never been at Trinity when Wright made similar remarks.

Ok , it’s a lie , we ALL know that . How are we going to force the issue on him? The MSM will not touch a question like that . Who has the balls to ask him face to face to prove he wasn’t there at these types of sermons. I could make him REAL nervous if I was a reporter. I know the MSM will bury this story pronto . We at FR need to keep BIG pressure on Obama to force him to quit.

Tell that to Wright

LAWTON: Wright says he warned Obama at the beginning of his career that their relationship could have negative ramifications.

WRIGHT: They're going to associate your name with mine, and that could be detrimental, I told him back then. It holds just as true, even more so, now.

His membership in that church was probably a necessity to become anointed in the black Chicago political machine. Talk about a Catch 22. The black Svengali pol out there was who said “I'm gonna make me a President” probably told Obama had HAD to join to solidify his support, proving Obama wasn't smart enough on his own to get it DONE on his own. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and this is personified here. The Reverend Wright has simply done us all a huge favor.

It’s both “welcoming and terrific” and yet he also denounces and rejects the pastor’s comments.

How to square this circle?

I(usually) don’t capitalize the names of people I don’t respect, but sometimes it’s just a typo.

So you are claiming the "Retard Exemption" from writing proper English?

Thanks for the link to the PBS show. It exposes Obama as the liar that he is. His own “mentor” contradicts Obama’s claims of being ignorant about Wright’s radical statements.

Do chickens actually go anywhere in that they come home to roost? Anytime I see chickens in somebody’s yard, they’re rarely more than a few feet from their coop.

"I have felt frustrated by how the church has been characterized and by the suggestion that this is somehow a separatist church and by other statements made on these talk shows," he said. . . Trinity "is a wonderful faith community that has done very positive things in the community and also in my life."

I'll bet it has.

I'll give the church a break if it can prove that the preacher was not popular and the church as a center of "hope and change" liberation theology (political activism co-opting Christian doctrine to accomplish change, one way or another, against the state) was not popular.

Otherwise, this is just the old trick of "turning the tables," make the talk shows the "issue."

And the MSM, universities, et al, if they help condemn the talk shows, all agree 100 percent that it's AmeriKKKa and should be damned. It ain't going to work for them.

We have free speech again and we are not ever going to lose it again.

No more "Fairness Doctrine" that says liberals and beyond have free speech but conservative Americans do not.

Probably in older times they went out into the woods for food. The ones you saw were probably fed at home so no need to go wandering.

Isn’t it a good that the chickens come home though??? LOL

MOST IMPORTANT -— Obama never says what statements he is against. Wright has so many statements that are appalling. Which ones are Obama against. Obama says he never heard Wright say those statements when he spent 20 years in church. Which statements had he never heard before, exactly. I think he is parsing. I think he as heard most of those statements in one form or another.

His wife has never been proud of her country before. Is Obama saying that she never heard her pastor say any discouraging words about America?

What I still don’t ‘get’ is that Obama is every bit as much white as he is black.

If Obama were as quickwitted as they say, he could have taken this as an opportunity to say something to the effect that he not only hadn’t heard and doesn’t agree with Wright’s statements, but that he was raised by his white grandparents and would have taken exceptional offense had he heard the statements in person.

Seriously, are there ANY white people in this church?

I saw a half-white in the photo.

Speaking of white - where are Oabama's white relatives.

The ones that raised him, taught him to speak standard English and dress like a human being?

Not really, but one of Bill OReilly’s black guests invited him to come.

You dont move up in Chicago politics if you dont join a race-baiting church like this one. Theres no other way to get ahead.

My guess is that this the biggest and most popular church in Obama's district. Joining here gets him the most votes. I doubt he has attended it much. I think he is an atheist, but he knows that you don't go far in politics without a Christian affiliation.

This Obama is the biggest phony ever. He was created purely by the media. And the media will destroy him when they tire of him, which they always do.

I just can't tell if the MSM would want to switch horses back over to Queen Hitlery; it seems to me they are tired of her, as well, right now. (Plus there is the pledged delegate problem)

I just can't se how he can beat McCain in a general election, with or without their help. It's just fascinating to watch the MSM in the meantime.
