Seven members of Cuba's Under-23 soccer team defect in the United States, according to newspaper reports
With one player already suspended following a red card, Cuba coach Raul Gonzalez had only ten players available to him and his team began the match against Honduras with a one-man disadvantage and no substitutes.

Soccer-Cuban Defectors to Get Chance With Miami Club
What? Escape from utopia? Escape from nationalized healthcare and education? They must be shopping for something newer than a ‘57 Chevy.
What’s it been, 24 hours? Bet they are “registered” Democrats by now.
They probably only did it so they could vote in Florida’s primary
They are fleeing oppression. Oh, what the heck, screw ‘em.
Do you know much about Cubans who defect? They’re generally extremely conservative- virulently anti-commie, and deserve political asylum from the regime in Cuba. These aren’t landsapers sneaking across the border to reconquer Atzlan.
They are soccer players not heroes.
Maybe, they can all move to Flint, MI, and live with that fat slob Michael Moore!
After some time, they may be able to get a '58 Chevy (not that anyone would ever want a '58 Chevy)!
Only about 11% of Cubans in Florida are registered RAT.
You are correct. I have sponsored several families over the years. Three families in my home last year and expecting another family soon.
I’d rather open my wallet for these guys than for some of the fine folks occupying the welfare dole.
Didn’t say they were heroes, I said they’re people looking for freedom. Cuba still murders people for political reasons, you know.
How can a "Cuban" register to vote?
Look at this

Totalitarianism in Russia and Cuban defectors... I had missed the Cold War.
I see that one guy brought his 16-year-old wife.
Look at it from another perspective . . . what happens to them if they do not succeed in defecting and are caught by Cuban authorities?
I'd argue that they are braver than someone who sticks his neck out by expressing his opinion on an internet bulletin board (presumably in the United States).
90 miles in that thing!
