Damage extremely minor. F1.....maybe F2.
To: txflake
this tornado was just a little breeze.

Fascinating, unspun! I wonder if they'll even think about it, though.
Thank you for sharing your insights!

See pic @ post # 225. Those Olympic torch towers are about 40 ft tall and made of steel.
Hardly a lil breeze!

My family attracts them -- my mom was in the 1936 (?) Gainesville tornado, we were in the '75 one that hit the Governor's Mansion, and two have gone right over our house although they didn't touch down until they got a couple of miles away. So we know 'em when we hear 'em. And yeah, that tape does sound kinda rumbly . . . it's hard to tell over the cheap speakers on my computer though.
We live a half block from the CSX main line . . . and they just installed four-gate 'quiet zone' crossings so that the locomotives don't blow the horns any more.
So now we won't be able to tell the real freight trains from the tornados . . . . in fact, there's one going by right now . . . . at least I hope so!

Wait till daylight to see of any rotational twist on the trees to verify tornado. Horizontal winds can wreak havock.

seeing some of the latest pictures, this may be an F2. That isn’t anything to sneeze at. However, I must say.....we should surely be hearing more reports of injuries at this point if this was that severe. If not, it is a miracle.
That said, the Enhanced Fujita Scale does not have anything to do with deaths or injuries. There are times when extremely strong tornadoes have had few serious injuries.
We really won’t know how strong this thing was until we can see it in daylight I guess, which will provide a better estimate of wind speed than eyeballing night photographs on the Internet.

That’s a ‘66 Plymouth Fury under the debris.

Well, I work about 5 blocks east of the GA Dome . . .
. . . hope when I go in on Monday I have an office!
Actually, our building is steel and concrete, built in 1956, and it's a bunker. It should be just fine, the only thing I would worry about is the skylights in the top floor courtrooms.

Sorry..it's not on the agenda tonight. Discussion of Obama’s preacher has priority.

Those torch towers are pretty flimsy. Even though they’re steel, they’re only attached to the ground by big bolts at the base, embedded in concrete. They’re not designed to withstand a lot of lateral force . . . it would just lever the bolts right out of the frame.

Looked like there was damage outside/at Phillips Arena too. The Hawks game was never stopped from what I’ve seen, but totally different situation at the dome. Scary thing to go through.
