WASHINGTON - Michigan Democrats agreed Friday to push a do-over primary in early June to give them a say in the close presidential race between Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

Amid talks with the two campaigns, the four Michigan Democrats said in a statement they were "focusing on the possibility of a state-run primary in early June which would not use any state funding." Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, one of the Democratic participants, said a likely date is June 3.

"This option would require the passage of legislation by the state legislature, and we look forward to working with the members of the legislature in the coming days to see if this option can be made a reality," the Democrats said.

I think this is the same day as Oregon and one other primary. Another Super Tuesday shaping up, and Florida should get in on the fun.

That’s what I’m thinking.

Michigan chose their primary date. The DNC (rightly or wrongly) penalized them.

That doesn’t give them the right to have a mulligan or do-over.

Wouldn't I love that! I'm still wearing my “I'm with Fred” cap, still have the “Fred Thompson: $400. haircut not required” bumper sticker on the rear window of my evil SUV, and have the t-shirt. If only it could be.

Michigan GOP must file an injunction to stop it on 14th amendment grounds.

Why would Obama agree to this unless he thinks it will help him; help he doesn’t need right now?

So do the Dems who crossed over and voted Republican and gave us McCain get to vote for a Dem now? Will they have an open primary like before? What do you want to bet it will be a closed Dem only re-do?

But only at the last minute.
Tie it up in court past the deadline.

So, they need the use of State of Michigan / County / Local government employees to conduct the primary. Cleary a use of public resources.

What prevents the Republican voters in the State from demanding that they be permitted to vote in this “do-over”?

Let’s say for argument sake that I’m an unhappy Republican and wanted to vote for a Democratic candidate in the FIRST primary, but when the Dems pulled out I was denied my selection so my only alternative as to vote on the Republican slate.

Now that there may be a “do-over” primary, I want my vote to count in helping select the Democratic candidate.

I demand to be included in the “do-over”!

What say you?

Is there enough time between June 3 and the convention for all the law suits to be heard?

The Clintons move the goalposts so often they’ve attached caster wheels to the base to make it easier.

State Dem parties and voters have learned well from the masters. Bless.

Mind you if the Republicans tried to give themselves a mulligan the usual foghorns would be at it hammer and tongs.

Somehow I don’t think we’ll hear any self-righteous blather about Diebold, the integrity of the ballots/voting process, disenfranchisement, cops moonlighting as bogeymen, etc.
