Are you done playing, John?

I know FreeRepublic is not for profit. I understand that any changes that are done to it are "unencumbered" by any feasible plan.
But you are driving me nuts, John!
Think things through from my perspective. I don't have time to play around figuring out all the subtle differences between on Alpha release and the Next.
Do the right thing. Beta. Test. Don't break what isn't broken. Never, ever, do anything that breaks a bookmark.
I understand that playgrounds are fun, but I, for one, don't have time to coddle you whilst you are playing!

I started out with Netscape Mozilla 0.7 or whatever that beta was, and for a while I had two browsers on my computer, and even three at one time. But it just didn’t seem to be worth the trouble after IE ironed out its worst early problems.
I like the tabbed windows in IE7, very useful for copying things and posting them. But IE7 seems to overload the operating system when you start it up, even though this computer has pretty good memory and graphics card.

If you click on Comments (or pings), you will see two blue tabs at the top left: Comments and Full.
Comments gives you the brief version, old style. Full gives you the title and the whole body of the comments as well.
So I think you just need to click on the Comments tab to change it back.

Agreed.
And now on a new system with 4 GIG RAM memory . . . I have IE7 freak out if I have open more than 5 or 6 windows. Sheeh.
Microslop strikes again.
And for some reason . . . keying gets buggy to non functional in some mysterious wys again.
I wonder . . . are powers that be annoyed with my antiglobalists postings . . . have THEY infected me with something that their agreements with the antispyware folks prevent cleaning thereof?
Sigh.

Why does FR "Comments" default to FULL comments again? Last time I was on FR we were back to the default of BRIEF comments, as we've always known on FR.
Now we have to make an extra annoying click to go from the FR default of "full" comments back to "brief". This makes no sense, and is a real pain if the site is running slow, or my connection is slow, as it is right now in a hotel. Grrr!

Are you joking or is there such a feature.
Why of COURSE there is such a feature, you activate it by lining up your cursor with the location of where you want the photo, then press "C" for "Coulter" (or "T" for "Thomas") and then proceed with three rapid "CNTRL-ALT-DEL" key stroke combinations.

Don’t listen to that poster. What you do is hit CONTROL+ESCAPE simultaneously, then hit U twice slightly rapidly. Don’t pause after CONTROL+ESCAPE, or your computer will crash. It’s best if you do CONTROL+ESCAPE with your left hand, then U twice with your right hand quickly.

My only complaint is my total ignorance of how to post a picture.
Are you trying to post pictures that you have on your own computer, or trying to post pictures that you found on other web sites?
Posting pictures from other web sites is usually pretty easy; you just have to figure out the URL for that image and type in the right magic html in your post here on FreeRepublic.
For example, I just went to google.com/images, and searched for "cow" (a favorite topic of mine.) The first cow image that happened to came up just now for this image search was this one:
To display it, as I just did above, I clicked through to the web page that had that cow picture, which Google said was
http://www.urbancincy.com/2008/01/cincinnati-and-missing-cows.html. I then
right-clicked on the image, left clicked on
Properties for that image, and a second, smaller Properties window came up, with information about that image, including the key information that its Address (URL) was:
http://www.fsl.orst.edu/sdmg/images/world_cow.jpg.
Knowing the images URL, I then typed the following into this post to get the beautiful cow picture to show above:
<img src= http://www.fsl.orst.edu/sdmg/images/world_cow.jpg>
Now if you want to post pictures that are on your personal computer, such as images you took with your own digital camera, then you have two steps. First figure out a way to get those images uploaded to some web server where they are visible across the web. Second, post them the same way I did the above cow image.
The hardest part is getting the images on a web server visible to others. But I don't know if that's where you're stuck, or not.

IMG SRC=URL between ... carets
This is less specific than it needs to be. One can present such instructions to others by:
- First typing in the actual, unadulterated html code into your post, then, before posting
- replacing each < character with the four character sequence <.
By replacing the left-carets this way with ampersand, lower case letter L, lower letter T and semi-colon, you force the html code to display as is, rather than by its usual interpretation. The "
lt" stands for "less than".
So, to present:
<img src=http://www.fsl.orst.edu/sdmg/images/world_cow.jpg>
type into your FR post:
<img src=http://www.fsl.orst.edu/sdmg/images/world_cow.jpg>
If you want to get fancy, you can replace the right carets with
> (the "gt" stands for greater-than) as well, and add bold and font and big text attributes to get different parts of the html code to stand out to the reader.

If not line feeds, perhaps a case of fresh data packets, but be sure the factory cellophane wrapping hasn't been torn off or else the packets will most likely be spoiled before you even get a chance to use them. ;)
