Worker sentenced in actress' NYC slaying

NEW YORK - A construction worker who admitted strangling an actress and then hanging her body to make it look like a suicide was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Thursday.

Diego Pillco, a 20-year-old illegal immigrant from Ecuador, had pleaded guilty in February to first-degree manslaughter in exchange for the sentence. He had faced 25 years to life in prison if he had been convicted at trial.

Pillco, who was doing interior renovations in the Manhattan building where Adrienne Shelly had an apartment she used as an office, admitted he killed the "Factotum" actress after she found him trying to steal from her purse. He said he then hanged Shelly to make her death look like a suicide.

"I want to say to the family I didn't go out with the intention of hurting anyone," Pillco said just before the state trial judge imposed the sentence. "I have suffered because I know what I have done." Shelly's husband, Andy Ostroy, told Pillco he was "nothing more than a cold-blooded killer" and "a murderous beast" who intended to rob, rape and then silence an "innocent," "beautiful, loving woman."

Ostroy repeated Pillco's account of the incident to police, saying, "You tied her up and hung her the way you strung up pigs back home in Ecuador. What kind of animal are you?"

"Adrienne was the kindest, warmest, most loving, generous person I knew," Ostroy said. "She was incredibly smart, funny and talented, a bright light with an infectious laugh and huge smile that radiated inner and outer beauty."

Shelly, born Adrienne Levine, appeared in the 2005 movie "Factotum" with Matt Dillon. She made her directorial debut with "Sudden Manhattan" in 1996, and she wrote, directed and co-starred in "Waitress," which also featured Keri Russell. It was released in 2007, after Shelly's death.

The judge said Pillco would be subject to immediate deportation upon release from prison.

What a travesty of justice. With credits for time served, etc. he'll be out in a decade. That's the going penalty for murder now? Just an illegal doing ahem - illegal work Americans won't do.

“Ostroy repeated Pillco’s account of the incident to police, saying, “You tied her up and hung her the way you strung up pigs back home in Ecuador. What kind of animal are you?””

Indeed. 25 years? What can I say. I’m sorry, I see nothing wrong with giving a perp his own kind of justice. I’ll supply the shower rod.

And he's going to be housed, fed and cared for by the American taxpayer until he gets deported.

Nice headline - 'Worker Sentenced'.

Not illegal immigrant sentenced, not Ecuadorean sentenced........worker sentenced. As if the fact that he works somehow should make you feel some sympathy because after all, he works.

Don’t forget medical care, good medical care. There was an alien murderer in Oregon prison, who got a heart transplant at taxpayer expense. (Might have been kidney transplant, it’s been a few years ago, I just know it cost a bunch)

Too bad the judge didn't point out that there is NOT A THING to prevent him from slipping back across the border within a day.

Wow. Maybe the killer will be out in 10-12 years with a master's degree in 'Social Justice' from his prison education program.

New York City doesn't allow you the means to defend yourself and will prosecute you to the full extent of the law if you do.

Meanwhile, if they do manage to catch your killer, they might actually give him ten years in jail.

It's pretty clear to me that your life is worth next to dirt in America's liberal-run major metro areas. All the career politicians care about is if your death will make the crime statistics look bad under their watch as they claw up the political ladder.

No-one cares about you. You're just a Social Security number. Aw, rats. We lost another taxpayer. Oh well, who's for cocaine and hookers, fellas?

Carry a gun, legally or illegally, is my advice.

Most probably he’ll be out in less than 10 years. This is New York, after all, not Texas.
He’ll be deported, then reenter the country after a few weeks or months and probably attack some other unsuspecting young woman.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Again it is open season on American citizens killed by illegal alien criminals or drunk drivers. Thank you to all who support the skunks who allow this to happen, yes the very American citizens who took an oath of office to protect America and Americans, and yet when you see what is going on with the presidential campaigns we see the same moronic idiots about to drive the final stake through the heart of a great nation! I am sick!

God's Law is just. An eye-for-an-eye...this was a policy of moderation and equity which was very different at the time it was adopted (and still is in many barbaric regions where drawing a cartoon can get your throat cut).

String this murdering felon up. It's the right thing to do. Anything less cheapens life.

Too bad we can't start a fund to offer a reward to whoever rapes and murders this scumbag in prison. Someone always has an auntie or sis on the outside who needs some cash.
