Officials: Boys Tried To Hold Up Police Station

Police Claim Duo Remarked, 'We'll Be Famous Now'

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Two boys were arrested after they attempted to rob a Port St. Lucie police station and said, "We'll be famous now," according to authorities.

Port St. Lucie police said the two boys -- ages 12 and 14 -- walked into the lobby of a regional station on Wednesday afternoon and demanded money from an aide behind the glass enclosure. Police said the 12-year-old hid one hand under his jacket as if he had a gun. Another aide ran into the back screaming for help.

Within minutes, a half dozen officers, some with guns drawn, burst into the lobby and arrested the boys.

Both boys were charged with attempted armed robbery. Police spokesman Rob Vega said the boys were laughing and remarked, "We'll be famous now."

There were a couple kids when I was in 6th grade that one day decided they would look cool if they refused to say the pledge to the American flag. They said that they were no longer American citizens and were going to over throw the government. The school called there parents. I didn't get to see but I heard that their mother dragged them off school grounds by the ear yelling at them for being stupid. They had to return to school the next week knowing that everybody knew who their mother was.

These days, I'm guessing that the kids would sue their parents on the grounds that "their human rights were being violated", the ACLU would take the case pro bono and would win, and the kids would become legally emancipated at age 14, whereupon they would be given their own daytime TV talk show to host daily caterwauling sessions about the "oppressive" society that America is.

I'll give them an 'E' for effort, but WHY hold up a building?

Were they in the crawl space; or did they dig a tunnel?

Had part of of the station collapsed, or were they just high on something that made think they were super-strong?

Did they remember to take the bolts off of the foundation plates, before attempting to lift it?

How long did they plan on holding it up?

Is there a Guiness Book of Records catagory for holding up buildings? If so, what matters more: weight, square footage, or elapsed time?

Well, yes we can do that, but I would also wish to politely suggest that there are also tangible things that can be done.  Just as LBJ's " Great Society" as well as innumerable smaller Government programs have served to destroy the black family and have created much of the inner-city social corruption, crime and turmoil that is now so ubiquitous, so also the removal of such programs 'may' pave the way toward bringing positive change, although perhaps not anything particularly significant in our lifetimes.  It will be an extremely arduous process, this business of undoing all of the damage that the "enlightened" '60's inflicted upon our culture, and there will be tremendous resistance from supposedly 'liberal' people.  Messing with this sort of thing directly affects one of the most important and jealously guarded voting blocs of the Left, and they won't take kindly to ideas that will actually help and free people from the slavery of the Leftist welfare mentality.  I would wish to suggest, however, that just as we cannot sit idly by and watch Saddam's henchmen feed sons and daughters into plastic shredding machines while their parents are forced to watch and listen, so also we can't sit by and watch generation after generation here in America destroy themselves at the altar of the Left, and we can't be cowed by juvenile Leftist taunts of "you're a racist!" when we dare to suggest that some Government programs be cancelled which are obviously causing great harm, even if they happen to be popular among those who have no particular sense of long term vision.

Thank you for your reasoned response. Hopefully there will be enough of us who share this essential attitude to make a difference. If not, then we are truly lost.

I'm fortunate to live in a old Mormon community. They've sort of adopted us, though we tend, um, Roman. It kind of surprised me how many of them have months and months of food storage, most have a few deer rifles and a couple of revolvers, and all are tied together by the ward calling tree, as well as the neighborhood watch.

In a short term and/or localized situation, they will be very effective. We saw evidence of this during the Teton dam break north of Idaho Falls. The Red Cross sold blankets, and the Mormons took in whole families and housed and fed them until they could get back on their feet.

T'wouldn't be a bad idea for other communities to adopt similar structures to cope. Ya know, when my neighbor needs to raise his barn, he can count on me. Perhaps it's a lost concept, or one that's no longer taught. Seems the schools teach the kids that it's the government they should rely on when the SHTF. Won't be but a generation until our kind are gone in most of the nation.

My kids know the difference, and my daughter can kick my butt at stationary target practice. I'm looking forward to the summer to take them to the hot rooms down in central Utah for some real training. It won't be horse camp, or the high Uintas, but I'm certain they'll pick up every nuance.

BTW, I offer situational training to even the gang bangers at my local shoot-em-up dirt pit. I figure that if they improve their accuracy, there'll be less bangers around, and fewer collateral casualties. LOL.

I’ll take that under advisement, but I’m not much of an activist. I more or less restrain myself to watching after my own neighborhood in which, I might add, we have few criminals from any age group. Where I live, crime truly does not pay. If everybody would tend to their local problems there would be, in my opinion, far fewer regional ones.

If more people would watch their own street as you do instead of Oprah, Montel and Jerry Springer, we could probably eliminate a dramatic percentage of the problems and ills of society.

I've always felt that Police, strict-Constitutionalist judges and prisons were all excellent uses of tax monies

Just a wild guess, but I'm betting that "mom" can't write (other than making an "x" on her welfare check) although that hasn't held many people back who have insisted upon inflicting worthless books upon the landscape....'ghostwriting' is a lucrative profession, or so I understand.

My grandfather was born in 1903, when I was young he told me a story about how he and his friends took some of their toy guns, put handkerchiefs around their face and marched into the local bank and tried to rob it. He said the security guard bend each one over his knee and paddled the hell out of them, then the bank manager marched each one home and told their parents what they did, who promptly bent them over THEIR knee for a little more “message reinforcement”. He always did tell that story with a big smile on his face, I doubt he would trade that memory for another year of life if he could.
