Obama's Pastor: God Damn America, U.S. to Blame for 9/11

Obama's Pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Has a History of What Even Obama's Campaign Aides Say Is 'Inflammatory Rhetoric'

By BRIAN ROSS and REHAB EL-BURI

March 13, 2008—

Sen. Barack Obama's pastor says blacks should not sing "God Bless America" but "God damn America."

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's south side, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is "inflammatory rhetoric," including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."

In a campaign appearance earlier this month, Sen. Obama said, "I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial." He said Rev. Wright "is like an old uncle who says things I don't always agree with," telling a Jewish group that everyone has someone like that in their family.

Rev. Wright married Obama and his wife Michelle, baptized their two daughters and is credited by Obama for the title of his book, "The Audacity of Hope."

An ABC News review of dozens of Rev. Wright's sermons, offered for sale by the church, found repeated denunciations of the U.S. based on what he described as his reading of the Gospels and the treatment of black Americans.

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," he said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.

"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.

"We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost," he told his congregation.

Sen. Obama told the New York Times he was not at the church on the day of Rev. Wright's 9/11 sermon. "The violence of 9/11 was inexcusable and without justification," Obama said in a recent interview. "It sounds like he was trying to be provocative," Obama told the paper.

Rev. Wright, who announced his retirement last month, has built a large and loyal following at his church with his mesmerizing sermons, mixing traditional spiritual content and his views on contemporary issues.

"I wouldn't call it radical. I call it being black in America," said one congregation member outside the church last Sunday.

"He has impacted the life of Barack Obama so much so that he wants to portray that feeling he got from Rev. Wright onto the country because we all need something positive," said another member of the congregation.

Rev. Wright, who declined to be interviewed by ABC News, is considered one of the country's 10 most influential black pastors, according to members of the Obama campaign.

Obama has praised at least one aspect of Rev. Wright's approach, referring to his "social gospel" and his focus on Africa, "and I agree with him on that."

Sen. Obama declined to comment on Rev. Wright's denunciations of the United States, but a campaign religious adviser, Shaun Casey, appearing on "Good Morning America" Thursday, said Obama "had repudiated" those comments.

In a statement to ABCNews.com, Obama's press spokesman Bill Burton said, "Sen. Obama has said repeatedly that personal attacks such as this have no place in this campaign or our politics, whether they're offered from a platform at a rally or the pulpit of a church. Sen. Obama does not think of the pastor of his church in political terms. Like a member of his family, there are things he says with which Sen. Obama deeply disagrees. But now that he is retired, that doesn't detract from Sen. Obama's affection for Rev. Wright or his appreciation for the good works he has done."

I was impressed with him on Hannity and Colmes tonight. I even listened for the entire hour! He’s the best we’ve got right now and we’d better get out and vote for him or we’ll be lost to the Obamamamas.

What is different is that Imam God Damn America said it out loud. Is there any doubt these are the feelings of 99% of those on the left?

Every bag of puss ululating agreement with his white hate in that pro death congregation should be identified and called out.

If you believe what this pastor has said is the truth, then why should Obama leave the church???

Your comment just makes no sense at all, IMO.

Oh, and WELCOME to FR, Oliver.

Considering you’re an Obama supporter I’d say your time here is likely to be VERY, VERY short. Enjoy it while you can, perhaps you will learn a few things about why Obama (a SOCIALIST) is so bad for our country (all these other “little” issues ignored for a moment...).

HELP

I found this sight - this is the smoking gun we need - but I can't get it to download -

This is the original sermon that "O" named his book after 0 the very first sermon he heard 20 years ago - I read an excerpt - and his anti-white rhethoic is there, yet "O" was so inspired, he joined, the rev. married him and his wife, baptised the kids -and all those years later, "O" used the title of that first sermon for his book.

We need that sermon - he could not explain away that he didn't know or didn't agree or anything else

I have no trouble with his giving money to his church. Many people tithe and that could have been part of that. They earn good money and they should support their church. Too bad it’s THAT church.

Red Foxx was a genius. I remember listening to his tapes when I was younger (MUCH younger). They were pretty off color but very funny.

Obama’s $1,000,000 Fix for Michelle http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2008/03/this-ad-hoc-dis.html
Ok, let’s look at the timeline:

- Obama is elected to the U.S. Senate.

- His wife gets a promotion and her salary is more than doubled.

- Obama slips into the federal budget an extra $1 million for the hospital that just gave his wife a huge raise and promotion.

No, nothing to look at here....

I wonder what would happen were a few dozen white people to show up next Sunday to attend the church services... Surely as Christians they would be welcomed, right? /s (kind of... might be an interesting experiment, especially if a few of the people to show up were reporters - no big vans, just reporters with “hidden” cameras just in case... Or, even if it was a group of conservatives, black and white who showed up.)

We need as a nation to repent for our sins. God will forgive us and heal our land when we do.

As individuals, we are all imperfect. As a nation, we have freed many people across the globe. We've re-built other nations with our own blood, sweat, and tears. This nation has done more than any other in history to help other countries and other people.

This is the greatest country in the world. Americans are (for the most part) the most generous people in the world. Whenever there is a disaster, which country is usually the first on the scene to help? We spend billions of dollars in foreign aid all over the world. American doctors, nurses, teachers, and many others donate their time and skills to help those in need.

I can't repent for the sins some Americans made long before my ancestors and the ancestors of many of us ever landed on this blessed soil. All I can do is my best in the here and now.

No, Mary. The sins of Americans who were long dead before my ancestors even came here do not fall upon me.

hey there.. Thanks for putting up the link. I did get the free version to download after I clicked the “Download Now” link on the first page. The page it brings you to has a second download link.

Don’t know if you saw that and still couldn’t download or what. I only realized it after hitting “Save Link As” and realizing it was an .html file.

I will probably take some time and transcribe the whole sermon later tonight after the kids go to bed (we’re on a strange schedule).

I’ve taken great pains to teach my daughters the evils of racism and I don’t want to take the chance of them hearing some of this vile garbage. They don’t need to hear it, especially from someone claiming to be a “religious man”.

Here are two links I’ve found for the preachers first sermon “O” heard 20 years ago - that inspired him to stay for 20 years - and from which he got the title of his book.

I can’t get the first one to download and the second one is in the second volume of a three volume set of sermons , for $49.95 - I don’t have the money - but I think it’s vital we get that original script - there would be no way then for “O” to refute anything...No way he could claim he didn’t know this is a rabid anti-white church - and this was the very first sermon he heard - 20 years ago.

and link to the volumes

link to audios which I can’t get to download. I suspicion they may be doing a purge...
