ASSISTED-SUICIDE advocate Jack Kevorkian, whose controversial tactics earned him the nickname Doctor Death, plans to run for the US Congress.
"We need some honesty and sincerity instead of corrupt government in Washington," Dr Kevorkian said when announcing his bid to his hometown newspaper in Michigan, the Oakland Press.
Dr Kevorkian, who spent more than eight years in jail for the murder of a man whose videotaped assisted suicide was aired on national television, claims he actively helped 130 people die.
He vowed to continue to lobby for the legalisation of assisted suicide when he was released from jail last June but said he has no desire to go back to jail.
He told the Oakland Press that he will run as an independent in the 9th Congressional district.
The frail 79-year-old former pathologist will have to watch his words: the terms of his two-year probation prevent Dr Kevorkian from counseling people on how to commit suicide and his parole officer will be monitoring his public speeches.
Dr Kevorkian forced the United States to confront the ethical issues surrounding how best to treat the pain and suffering of the terminally ill when he went public with his suicide machines in 1990 and the videos of his patients begging him to help them die.

I suspect he’ll introduce a plan to slash health care costs dramatically.
Hopefully he will run as a Democrat and help to kill that party some more.
Does he favor term limits?
“Does he favor term limits?”
Definitely age limits.
Is a felon allowed to do that?
Now there’s a man with a plan for Social Security!
I can’t think of any more of a hallmark of individual rights, compassionate conservatism, and freedom of the shackles of a controlling government than the right to end one’s life when that individual wants to end their own life for whatever reason they think is right. Ayn Rand would applaud me for that statement.
Ho ho hoo hoo this guy kills me!!!!! Wait..........I didn’t mean that Jack.
Croak you old bastard.
Truth is no longer a defence???
Could be a running mate for either dem.
Or personal physician...
Or personal physician...
He was released from prison in June of 2007 with two years left on his parole. I read that in Michigan, a convicted felon can run for public office as long as he’s completed his sentence. In my opinion, he shouldn’t be eligible to run until after his parole is complete, which won’t be until June 2009.
vote !!
Nader/Kavorkian!
Clinton/Kavorkian
Obama/Kavorkian
Adds a bit of spice to any combination.
This is a joke...right ?? This idiot is going to run against Joe Knolenberg ?? What is he going to say to Joe?...the same thing the Baloney said to the Meat Slicer. I guess there’s no law against practicing your practice against yourself !!! PUTZ.
Then there’s McCain/Kevorkian, which comes with a whole different set of implications...
