Former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro today defended a remark she made to the Daily Breeze last week, in which she suggested that Sen. Barack Obama would not be where he is if he were white.
In an interview with the Breeze, Ferraro said, "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color), he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."
The comment was picked up by political blogs and cable news shows across the country. The Obama campaign held a conference call today to denounce the remark, and Obama surrogates urged Sen. Hillary Clinton to repudiate it. (SNIP_ But far from backing off from her initial remark, Ferraro defended it and elaborated on it.
"Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let's address reality and the problems we're facing in this world, you're accused of being racist, so you have to shut up," Ferraro said. "Racism works in two different directions. I really think they're attacking me because I'm white. How's that?"

yep. it’s hilarious.
otoh, Ferraro is fracking nuts. The idea that *any* black person has it easier than white people in this country is crazy.
bingo.
Obama may be a dangerous socialist, but he’s NOT a muslim. This has been discredited and debunked as much as it can be, and it just makes conservatives look stupid to keep repeating this idiocy.
Let’s win the war of ideas honestly, shall we?
“Obama may be a dangerous socialist, but hes NOT a muslim. This has been discredited and debunked as much as it can be, and it just makes conservatives look stupid to keep repeating this idiocy.”
Amen to that.
heh...everyone over there is trying to out-victim each other..
Hey Gerry, you’re never to old to learn eh? A conservative is a liberal who has been mugged. Better check to see if you still have your wallet and wrist watch because your @$$ is now grass. Nice knowing you.
Not so fast. The debate is not about what America thinks about Obama’s name or ethnicity it is about what the radical Islamists think about Obama. Obama has admitted that his father and step-father were both Muslim. The Muslims believe that the son assumes the relgion of his father. So If Obama is viewed as an apostate then the radical islamists will have a recruitment tool in that Muhommad said “any man that leaves the relgion of Islam kill him” which makes America less safe.
So are we to have a broad range discussion on this issue or should we be silenced and have our right to speak stamped out by the liberal intolerant in the name of bigotry and racism, neither of which are true.
Imagine this the MSM have embedded reporters with our enemy to get a news story on how they managed to ambush and kill our soldiers, but the same MSM will fail to report the state of the Radical Muslims thoughts regarding the impending election of a U.S. President that has a known muslim father.
It is a very dangerous and UnAmerican precedent.
A little off-topic, but if you know anything about demography, then you're busily preparing for a 21st century in which a new class of victims will be fodder for victimhood.
If a Republican said the very same thing, Ferraro would be the first to condemn the Republican as a racist.
Obama may not be a Muslim in the sense that he believes that the Koran is the perfect, immutable word of God, as transmitted perfectly and immutably via the archangel Gabriel to the prophet Mohammed [in that sense, I'd be shocked if Obama himself weren't an atheist], but if you think that Obama isn't up to his eyeballs in all sorts of associations with extremely violent radical-fascist Muslims, then you need to get your head out of the sand.
Gosh, is a DEMOCRAT pointing out the fact that the left uses “shields” like “racism” to deflect ANY CRITICISM?
and you don’t think the Islamofascists are just as eager to kill Bush as they would be to kill Obama?
And Perot got in hot water for saying "you people."
Sure they want to kill Bush but only because the Democrats have told them that we were wrong for going into Iraq and forcing Freedom on them. It is the Democrats that called our troops Occupiers not the centrist muslims, it is the Democrats that said Bush Cowboy diplomacy is bad for the ME and they should reject it, it is the Democrats who claim we went to Iraq for all the wrong reasons and therefore deserve to lose to Al-Qiada.
Look Obama removing the troops from Iraq, a foreign policy that is nieve and insane that in effect has you sitting down unconditionally with our enemies to negotiate a peace that they don’t want. Obama who is an apostate is the last person on earth that should be allowed to make these decisions for America.
How do you compete with radical Muslims that will come here and commit suicide murder in order to terrorize you into submission? You can’t compete with it it is utter insanity and it must be eradicated, there is no other option.
Obama is a candidate made for a time when the world is at peace not at war.
and my point in both posts was simply shouldn’t we be having this debate instead of being shut down quickly with the racist, bigot label? How intolerant is that?
Nam Vet
Heh. They're carving each other up very nicely over there. They're defining the meaning of racism as the thread progresses!
So many victims, so little bandwidth . . .
