WaPo's Marcus: Harvard-Grad Mrs. Spitzer 'Serious Person' Not Some Tammy Wynette
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 03/11/2008 2:23:05 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

In a revealing moment of MSM elitism, WaPo editorialist Ruth Marcus, discussing the decision of Silda Wall Spitzer to appear with her husband Eliot yesterday, wanted people to know Mrs. Spitzer is a Harvard law grad and a "serious" person, not a Tammy Wynette type.

Marcus was interviewed by Contessa Brewer on MSNBC this afternoon, and the pair turned to the question of why political wives tend to appear with their husbands who have been caught up in sex scandals.

RUTH MARCUS: I just don't think that we should lump all these women together. And to use a line that got Hillary Clinton in some trouble back in the 1992 presidential campaign, Eliot Spitzer's wife is not some Tammy Wynette, stand-by-your-man kind of woman.

She continued . . .

She's a very serious, Harvard-educated, Wall Street-working, mergers and acquisitions lawyer who is now involved in a children's charity. She is a serious person, and she is not simply kind of dragged up there on stage by her husband. So I am sure that every spouse needs to sort of, after an event like this, decide what's right for their future. But at the moment, you just sort of go on with the part of your job.

I hated that song. I was in SC in the mid 60’s. Every 3rd song played on the Jukebox was that. UGH!

“...Eliot Spitzer’s wife is not some Tammy Wynette, stand-by-your-man kind of woman.”

Well, she stood by her man in public after he cheated on and humiliated her. What part of that action is not defined as “standing by your man?” She did just that, unless I missed the part where she brained him with a frying pan, or turned on her heel and walked off during his statement.

“job” -— reveals view of wife role as just being another form of prostitution - therefore equivalent on some plane?

In 1966 you would get 1 song for a dime or 3 songs for a quarter. They played 45 rpm records. LOL

Tammy wynette was clever enough to throw her loser husband overboard. Doesn’t say much for the smarts of the Harvard educated wife does it?

......who is now involved in a children's charity.

in the liberal world, being somehow involved with a 'children's charity' exempts you from any kind of criticism and makes anything and everything you say and do okay.

these people are really really nauseating

And ‘serious person’ reveals just what this WaPo editorialist thinks of women who are homemakers.

LOL. Tried strapping one on my arm once, but they wouldn’t let me out of Marie’s Main St. Diner ;-)

I guess thats a nice way of saying that Wynette’s husband didn’t have to resign the governorship and spill his private life all over the 24hour news, thats how people talk in New York.

Poor Tammy. People keep dragging her into things she has nothing to do with.

She sang about having a man worth standing by. Hillary and Silda have been forced to stand by men who have publicly humiliated them. But they heap scorn on poor Tammy.

Bubba shot one one time............

_____________________

We were all down at Margie’s bar
Telling stories if we had one
Someone fired the old jukebox up
The song sure was a sad one
A teardrop rolled down Bubba’s nose
From the pain the song was inflicting
And all at once he jumped to his feet
Just like somebody kicked him

Bubba shot the juke box last night
Said it played a sad song it made him cry
Went to his truck and got a forty five
Bubba shot the juke box last night

Bubba ain’t never been accused of being mentality stable
So we did not draw an easy breathe
Until he laid that colt on the table
He hung his head till the cops showed up
They dragged him right out of Margie’s
Told him “Don’t play dumb with us, son”
“Know damn well what the charge is.”

Bubba shot the juke box last night
Said it played a sad song it made him cry
Went to his truck and got a forty five
Bubba shot the juke box last night

Well, the sheriff arrived with his bathrobe on
The confrontation was a tense one
Shook his head said, “Bubba Boy,”
“You was always a dense one.”
Reckless discharge of a gun
That’s what the officers are claiming
Bubba hollered, “Reckless! Hell!”
“I shot just where I was aiming.”

Bubba shot the juke box last night
Said it played a sad song it made him cry
Went to his truck and got a forty five
Bubba shot the juke box stopped it with one shot
Bubba shot the jukebox last night
Well he could not tell right from wrong
Through the teardrops in his eyes
Beyond a shadow of a doubt
It was justifiable homicide
Bubba shot the juke box stopped it with one shot
Bubba shot the jukebox last night
