Spains governing Socialists triumphed in elections on Sunday, giving Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero a fresh mandate to pursue his agenda of sweeping social, cultural and political liberalization.
Despite a bitterly fought campaign, the outcome seemed to endorse some of Mr. Zapateros boldest decisions, including the withdrawal of Spains troops from Iraq, the granting of more autonomy to Spains rebellious regions, simplified divorce and the legalization of homosexual marriage.
I will govern by continuing with the things that weve done well and correcting mistakes, Mr. Zapatero said in accepting victory outside his party headquarters. He added, I will govern for all, but thinking above all of those people who do not have everything.
In particular, Mr. Zapatero said he would work to fulfill the aspirations of women and young people and provide more support for the elderly.
With more than 99 percent of the ballots counted, Mr. Zapateros party won 43.7 percent of the vote, and the conservative Popular Party 40.1 percent, according to the Interior Ministry. Turnout was high an estimated 75.4 percent of the countrys 35 million eligible voters only a shade below the 75.7 percent turnout in 2004.

Have you been reading that poisonous crap from Locke and Rousseau again?
The last people who read that stuff started a war with the British Empire and King George III. People died. Are you trying to start a revolution?
For what? In a couple of hundred years those free people will revert back to government servitude. What’s the point?
I was working at the polls in Ohio this past Tuesday. They set it up so that there are an equal number of Republicans and Democrats at each precinct. Two black ladies I was working with were Democrats. They were very friendly for the most part, until we were discussing the election in a down time. She was horrified that I voted against the school levy. She thought I didn’t care about the children getting a good education. She was telling me that Dems prefer to share their money while Reps want to keep theirs. She said she would be fine if a Dem got it, but not a Rep because she couldn’t stand Reps, even though she preceded to say she had little idea of what we stood for. To keep the peace, I just smiled and nodded for the most part. She is Christian, and I could tell that she bought into the idea that the Dem party is truly Christian because they “share” their wealth, while us evil Reps hog it all.
South Carolina (my future home) should secede from the union...again.
I'm not talking about the opinion of those who want to secede. I'm talking about the federal government being just ducky with it. It doesn't make sense. No government wants to lose pieces of its nation - not from a population standpoint, tax base standpoint, power base standpoint, natural resources standpoint, or anything else.
I know what you meant.
I was just daydreaming about my future life in Hilton Head playing golf year round and not having to deal with the socialists in the Democratic People’s Republic of New Jersey.
I’ll be drinking a martini, smoking a big cigar in a bar there and laughing while reading about the disaster here from a safe distance.
Spain went from a good guy (Aznar) to this scumbag. Watch the country fall...
Let us know when you're walking in tall cotton down south. I'd love to be surrounded by southerners in a southern climate but alas it will never be.
Spain is Osama’s bitch.
Dems duon’t share their wealth they share yours
Mr. Zapatero said he would work to fulfill the aspirations of
women and young people and provide more support
for the elderly.
This sounds familiar, and I see no difference from the usual dogma of the Socialist party.
That’s true.
Let me put it this way...When I walk into that southern bar, the music will stop and everyone will be staring at me.
I don’t look the part, but I do belong there.
Note to Mr. Blair - leave the Obama t-shirt in Jersey.

Europe is socialist because most Europeans are now secular humanists.
Our government schools are factories for secular humanist thinking. It is inevitable that America will be a socialist nation very soon if we do not address this problem.
So THAT explains the Clintons....thanks.
It’s hardly a victory for the Socialists. It’s just like the “mandate” the Democrats got in 2006, they barely held onto their lead. It’s not a victory for Conservatism, but it seems they have a strong enough opposition to prevent the Socialists from having a field day.
GREAT graphic in #9!
Check out the Comrade Hillary graphic in #9... priceless!
