Man, wouldnt this be great to see on youtube?
President Bush brought the 123rd annual spring dinner of the Gridiron Club to a rousing close Saturday by donning a tan cowboy hat above his white-tie and tails singing, onstage, a self-parody of a Texas-flavored country-and-western song.
You have just witnessed the first and final performance of Bush and the Busharoos, the president said, after rendering a final encore of the Brown, Brown Grass of Home, the venerable waltz tune, in a voice that did minimal musical justice to Tom Jones popular version.
**snip** In another stanza, Bush sang, I spend my days clearing brush. I clear my head of all the fuss you made of Harriet and Brownie. He was referring, of course, to Harriet Miers, his former counsel and abortive Supreme Court nominee, and Michael Brown, who resigned, post-Katrina, as the nations federal preparedness chief 10 days after Bush said, Brownie, youre doing a heck of a job.
Ending on a serious note, the president said: Let me give you a simple truth that I believe wholeheartedly you cant have a true democracy without a free press. But then he added: Ill admit that sometimes you do get on my nerves.
Before leaving the stage, Bush joined hands with Helen Thomas, 87, a Hearst News papers columnist and one of his sharpest critics, for the traditional group singing of Auld Lang Syne. Then he planted a kiss on her cheek.
Earlier, when the curtain came down on the Democratic skit, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland stood in with two days notice for Rep. Charles Rangel of New York, who remained hospitalized with the flu.
Now I know how [Ariz. Sen.] John McCain feels, Hoyer said, I may not even be your second choice. But if I hit a home run, [Rep.] Henry Waxman [D-Calif.] is going to give me a hearing.
Planted a kiss on Helen Thomass cheek? Ugh... he must of gagged soon after.
Oddly, I think this likely bothered Helen more than W.
“Love your enemies; it really p!sses them off.”
LOL! I’m betting it was HT who went for the sani-wipes afterwards to scrub her face!
I’ll bet Cheney double-dog dared W to smooch Helen.
Sure would have loved to see that! Guess there is no chance the event was taped by CSPAN and to be shown anytime soon. Would be fun to see!
He should get hazardous duty pay!
Mr. Bush, I salute you! You're a real Christian!
I agree that Helen feels the one wronged, but then she has been a card carrying 'Love the Liberal Democrats' and 'Hate Anything American' b!tch so long, she does not recognize or understand that George W. Bush is something we see very little of these days. A true 100% Texas Gentleman and that is with a Capital "T" for sure!
I was raised a 100% Texas Gentleman, yet somewhere along the way I lost about 25 to 30 percent over the years. Oh, I still open door for the fairer sex, when they let me. "Women and children first!" remains in my vocabulary unless they are shooting at me or toting IEDs.
Yes, my firm belief in 'Do unto others as you want them to do unto you' has had a severe shrinkage mostly due to observing them Liberal Democrat critters of the past 30, 40 years or so.
Where W would offer his complete help to a Lib Dem on fire, I wouldn't even consider unbuttoning my fly. When 43 had the Clintons to the White House, he treated them with respect and dignity, something I could not bring myself to do. I'd be loading up on cream pies brimming with itching powder!
Even in trying circumstances dealing with the Lib Dems, he holds to his civility where I steam, boil and dream of revenge served ice cold.
But then again, George W. Bush remains true 100% Texas Gentleman while I am only 65 to 75, ceding that 25 to 30 percent to my Texan/Celtic Frontier Warrior ancestors who took few, if any, prisoners.
My feeling is that when John McCain gets into office (Yes, I do believe he will win in the long run) after being sliced, diced, drawn and quartered by former friendly MSM and the Billary/Obama machine, he will be a whole lot more conservative that he ever thought of being.

I hope you are right!
Hey, I'm a 60-year old Barry Goldwater Conservative Republican from Texas! How could I not be right?
Well, you did vote... for Carter in 76, ya know.
Opps... forgot about that three week drunk!
My favorite 4/4 time waltz it is.
Been there! LOL
Ever the optimist!!
You be da man; Bender!!
Thanks for the video link. Thank God for President Bush.
I read the usual Bush hating comments on the link too.
Helen Thomas has absolutely no class. She is holding hands with the President of the United States and he apparently was kind enough to pull her up there for one last time, and she doesn’t even have the decency to look at him. I am convinced Democrats have no shame. Where are the Republican leaders speaking up for the President. I know we have been let down on issues. The Border is the main one for me, but in all the years he has been in office where are the men speaking out on the media in support of GW?
