A longtime Republican district fell to the Democrats Saturday when a wealthy businessman and scientist snatched former House Speaker Dennis Hastert's congressional seat in a closely watched special election. Democrat Bill Foster won 52 percent of the vote compared to 48 percent for Republican Jim Oberweis. With 565 of 568 precincts reporting, Foster had 51,140 votes to Oberweis' 46,270.

I don’t like it either.

But I have to call them like I see them.

I read the letters to the editor in the local paper.

I listen o the idiots that the t.v. reporters stick a mike in their faces talk.

I listen to talk radio.

I seen the number of votes Dem. Vs. Republican

I see who the Republican National Committee, the Democrat Party, and the main stream media wanted nominated and got nominated.

In conclusion, I have to face reality and call them as I seem them.

Do I like it? No

Someone needs to explain to the American people why “free” this or “free” that is harmful, unconstitutional and freedom is the better way to go

Someone already did.

“No matter who wins March 8, Oberweis and Foster will face off again in November for a full two-year term.”

When given the choice between a socialist and someone who merely acts like a corrupt socialist, most voters will pick the real thing. That’s the lesson the GOP failed to learn in 2006, and will probably fail to learn in 2008.

It’s not going to be a happy November for the GOP. The bad news is that a lot of good conservatives will get swept out. The better news, though, is that a conservative third party might become viable as a result.

You got that right.

From observing I have decided that the Democrats and Republicans are in cahoots with each other. Kinda like “good cop”, “bad cop”.

Tonight’s result is perfect example of what would happen if Mitt Romney got the GOP nod.

Jim Oberweis is a lot like Mitt Romney. Both are successful business people. Both change positions every election cycle. Both blast rival Republicans for having RINOish stands on the issues when they held the same positions a few years ago. Both Romney & Oberweis try to bully supporters of other Republican candidates into joining their sides. When Romney & Oberweis lose, they blame the RINO establishment for rigging the system against them.

if he kisses our fannies big time

I wouldn't trust McCain even if he signed pledges in blood.

If he did get elected, he, like his predecessor, would give conservatives the middle finger and go about making nice with his 'friends' -- Kennedy, Kerry, Lieberman, Clinton, etc.

Anyone voting for McCain and expecting to get a conservative deserves what they get --- and it won't be a conservative president.

“Had the Pubbies stuck to Reaganism, had they stuck to Conservatism rather than Globalism... Globalism is Socialism in a business suit. It is the Republicans who laid the seeds for this so called ‘new direction’, and it is their just desserts to be foiled by it.”

I’m starting to wonder if folks who consider themselves true conservatives understand what Reagan was about. Reagan was a major supporters of global trading. When the Democrats and their union cronies wanted tariffs to keep out the Japanese, Reagan wouldn’t allow it.

true conservatives DO NOT rush to the therapist couch...a true conservative has a "can do" attitude and can ride the rough waves as well as the smooth sailing...

the whiny arses on this thread must be Rats and Libs...given up and not even fighting.....

if only the bread and butter of America would get out and vote instead of complaining, Amercia can be restored...

why don't some of you whiners think of our boys in Iraq for a change?...if those young men had your attitude, they would be still sitting on the ship, on the toliet, crying like a babies....

A fellow Mencken fan....I like it

Last month, on the way home from CPAC, I visited Baltimore and saw Mencken's home in Union Square.

Your post reminded of something I read back when Nixon and Humphry were the Republican and Democrat nominees.

It went thusly:
Neither party wanted to win the Presidency that year for various reasons.

The Republicans nominated Nixon because they believed that he could not win anything.

The Democrats nominated Humprhey , the line of thought being if there was anyone who could come up wiyh a way to lose it was Humphrey.

Yep.

They are sort of like "pro" wrestlers. In the ring they are viciously battling each other to the bitter end with blood and spittal splattered all over the ring. Then they go to the showers and go out and have drinks with each other. The ring is for show and entertainment for the consumers.

All that political battling is just window dressing for the voters. Look at Clinton and Obama and most of McCain. There is little significant difference amongst the three. Much of their voting records have been identical. Look at who McCain buddies around with.

I prefer:

Those who can-do

Those who can’t-teach

Those who can’t teach-join unions

Those who join unions—indoctrinate

Those who won’t be indoctrinated-vanish

Socialism 101.

why don't some of you whiners think of our boys in Iraq for a change?

Why do you think we feel the way we do? The Democrat party has made no secret of the fact that they will immediately and unconditionally surrender to Al Qaeda upon taking over in 2009. The Democrat party pees on the graves of the 4000 brave soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom. After they cut funding for the war, history will talk of how good Vietnam veterans were treated when they came home in the mid-1970s compared to how our troops will be greeted when they are pulled out in 2009.
