>> you'd think people would stop listening to you, based on support of one loser after another. <<

Losers like Peter Fitzgerald, Peter Roskam, and Matt Murphy? (all of whom I backed in the primary) Or the losers like Mike Huckabee, who freepers proclaimed had "no chance" of winning the primary and then beat the "real" candidates like a rented mule?

Say what you want about "jokes" like Ray Wardingley, he never get elected to office either -- BUT at least he can always make it thur contested primaries and has the excuse that he was running in a safe RAT district.

What's Oberweis excuse? Apparently his supporters have decided it's ALWAYS someone else's fault.

Yes you have had some winners, but all of those in the post I responded to were in fact losers.

Thanks for bringing up the topic of Spanky The Clown yourself ... I did not want to stoop so low.

Is there any chance that Jim Oberweis will withdraw from the November election?

The difference between myself and Chicagolady is I don't run around proclaiming ol' Spanky the Clown is God's gift to Illinois conservatives and anyone who runs against him is a traitor who "betrayed their oath of office". Nobody expects Ray to win in November, just to annoy the RAT candidate, and he does that job well.

Also, quite frankly, he's a far better campaigner than Jim and that's why he wins primaries with no money while Jim spends millions and gets nowhere. I'll be the first to tell you that if Ray is slated against Emil Jones in the fall, he's not likely to win unless a miracle occurs.

Oberweis cultists, on the other hand... seriously, he's lost... how many times? By my count, six failed bids for political office now, and spent millions of his own money. What does it take for them to figure out this guy is unelectable? There's something seriously wrong with entrusted a guy who has never won anything in his life (I've held more offices than Obie) to the highest levels of government.

And Kuskool is right, all you "Brady needs to go away so Obie will beat Blago" people need to accept this election proves the Brady's supporters were right. Oberweis had NO shot in that election and it was his ego that caused the Topinka fiasco. We waste money in the primaries because of people like him who are bored and decide they can buy themselves a high political office they don't deserve. We had a qualified conservative official willing and able to run before the zillionaire showed up and demanded conservative allegiance to him.

I like Steve Forbes, but after he lost two Presidential primaries in a row I pretty much took the hint this would never go anywhere. Ditto with Alan Keyes and his third failed Senate bid. I get that they won't win. The Oberweis cultists, as proven by their shoving him down our throats in 2008, will never understand that.

Don't lump me in with your Obie-cltists. I stayed aggresively neutral in the primary and could have easily voted for either one ... neither is perfect, both have quirks.

Of course, I supported Obie over the socialist Foster. Hope that doesn't make me cultist.

I know you were neutral in this year’s primary. You did, however, drink the “Obie will beat Blago” kool-aid in the 2006 election

Will Oberweis stay on the ballot in November? I hope not.

We're pretty much stuck with him unless he withdraws, I think. (I agree that if Obie is the nominee against an incumbant Foster, he'll probably lose by a greater margin in November than he did this week) He has the nomination by default since this election was just to fill out the remainder of Hastert's term.

The only reasonable scenario where I can see the IL GOP recovering is this:

1) Oberweis FINALLY decides to give his quest for elective office a rest and withdraws, but waits until the party finds a decent replacement who is popular in the district (Kane Co. Chairman Karen McConnaughay? Mayor of DeKalb? just an example) to do so.

2) Lauzen, since he has been weakened in the 14th, is instead appointed to fill the OTHER vacant Congressional race in the 11th district (where he already represents LaSalle Co.) Outgoing Congressman Jerry Weller helps him and Oberweis writes a generous check to him, healing the primary rift.

3) Hillary steals the RAT nomination from Obama at the Denver convention (he leads in elected delegates), thereby causing his supporters -- especially those in Illinois -- to scream about being "disenfranchised" and they vow to stay home or vote third party in November.

Also, this one:

4) Foster ends up being confronted with a bunch of wacko liberal legislation between now and November and sides with the moonbats on every occasion, thereby giving the GOP nominee plenty of ammo to tell voters in a 60%+ Republican district what a Nancy Pelosi Democrat this guy truly is.

I agree that Oberweis isn’t a good candidate. Since he lost statewide primaries in 2002 & ‘04 (for the U.S. Senate both times), he should have known that he would lose his 2006 governor primary race. As soon as St. Sen. Brady announced his campaign, in Aug. 2005, Oberweis should have dropped out of the race and endorsed Brady. Brady would have won the primary, and he would have received a higher percentage, in the general election, than Judy Topinka, who received 38%.

"The Obie supporters are blaming Lauzen and talking of ousting Lauzen from the State Senate in 2010."

Y'know what ? That cuts it. It's obvious this Oberweis ass is nothing but a Democrat agent, just like Romney, undermining and dividing the Republican party and handing offices to the Democrats left and right. This guy needs to be shown the door for good.

Good grief! WTF is wrong with these people? I could understand up to a point if Jim Oberweis were a great leader, like Ronald Reagan had been. Even Katherine Harris, for all her faults, was a legitimate victim of a biased media lynch mob who subjected her to the worst kind of press abuse. She was (and is) desesrving of sympathy, if not political support.

But Oberweis is none of these things. The only way he could be deserving of any conservative good will would be if he withdrew from the November election.

To those of us in Illinois who have been watching the Oberweis cultists since 2002, this is nothing new for them. They're always quick to lash out at whatever Republican candidate was more popular than Obie and rage about that person being in kahoots with the "GOP establishment insiders" to deny Oberweis his rightful office.

In 2004 they attacked Jack Ryan (not to be confused with Jim Ryan or George Ryan) as a Jon Corzine clone and insinuated that Corzine put him up to run because they both were millionaires that worked at Goldman Saches. Oberweis' camp put out a last minute hit piece a few days before the election with Obie and Jack Ryan side-by-side that read "Jim Oberweis: Conservative Republican. Jack Ryan: Liberal Democrat" and proclaimed Jack Ryan actually had a bunch of hidden "liberal" views (this from the guy who had run as a "moderate" two years earlier and only cared about lower taxes and gun rights at the time). After Ryan's divorce records were unsealed and JBT and Ray LaHood stabbed Ryan in the back, we learned exactly how friendly the "establishment insiders" were to Ryan. The Oberweis crowd naturally expected Jim Oberweis to be selected as the replacement candidate since he had polled second in the race, and when he wasn't, many of them screamed about how Jim had been "cheated" and promised to stay home.

In 2006, as I mentioned before, they started whispering about a grand conspiracy that the other conservative in the race, Bill Brady (who is not related to Jim & Sarah Brady and in fact had an unblemished solid conservative voting record in office), was a Topinka plant and had supposedly spent a year traveling around the state and put up hundreds of thousands of dollars of his own money for the sole purpose of "taking votes from Obie" so RINO Topinka would get nominated. They'd even post crap on the Illinois boards saying they saw a "secret handshake" between the two on camera where Topinka whispers something in his ear and other tinfoil hat stuff like that. As proof, they pointed to the fact Brady endored Topinka in the general election monthes later (the fact that Oberweis did too and gave Judy a big fat donation at the "unity dinner" was immaterial to them). They also talked of "taking Brady out" of his Senate seat as "revenge" for his "splitting the conservative vote". A year later, the evil "establishment insider traitor" Bill Brady announced he was going to be Fred Thompson's Illinois campaign manager, and that finally shut many of them up with the "Brady's on Topinka's payroll" smear. They were strangely quiet when I asked then to weigh in on whether still thought Fred's campaign manager was a "Topinka shrill".

There was a simular race in TN at the time where Van Hillary and Ed Bryant split the conservative vote and a RINO got nominated, but you never heard any tinfoil hat stuff that Van Hillary was a RINO plant on Bob Corker's payroll...

In short, according to the Oberweis cult, Obie can do no wrong. Whenever a more likable, more popular Republican official who has spent years building up his conservative credentials and carrying the water for the conservative movement gets in Obie's way, they place the blame on him and sinister unseen forces who are backing him solely for the purpose of destroying Jim Oberweis (shades of Hillary's "vast right-wing conspiracy that has been conspiring against my husband since he first ran for office). It's never the fault of the Oberweis campaign itself for falling to get elected. Never.

I wouldn't worry about the rumblings of them getting "revenge" on Lauzen as I doubt they'll follow through on any of this. The concern now is getting Oberweis to realize he can't win in November. The only way he'll listen to this and decide to get out of the race is if someone in his inner-circle has a frank discussion with him and tells him the situation is dire. In other words, we need an Oberweis cultist (in the mold of Ron Paul & Lyndon LaRouche types) to take a long hard look at reality and stop drinking the kool-aid.

I do fear if Oberweis is on the ballot in November, he'll drag down all the GOP candidates in Illinois' 14th District. Combine that with an Obama candidacy and we're talking massacre in what is normally "safe" Reagan country.

Possibly, but he's already on the ballot.

Do you think Oberweis will take a hint and withdraw? I don't know much about him but from what I've learned so far such an act doesn't seem to be in character.

{The only way he could be deserving of any conservative good will}

The Milk Dud cultists are really paid campaign workers and anti-illegal activists. Oberweis does pay his campaign staff well and donates to anti-illegal groups. The problem is the staff Obie hires tend to be anti-illegal activists who have zero knowledge of GOTV. When the AP called the race for Foster, Obie's campaign manager told the media that “We didn't see that coming.” Talk about political tone deafness. Survey USA and the NRCC saw the race was in danger.

To preserve their jobs, the Oberweis staff tells their boss that Lauzen is at fault. Its easier to blame other politician that admit incompetence. As a result, he keeps them on the payroll. Sucker!

This pretty much explains the appeal of Oberweis. Every election cycle, he keeps paying 3rd rate political consultants to give him bad advice. The Oberweis campaign is an industry.

My suspicions, too, that Oberweis’s primary win was racist seems to be a likelihood as well. The “whispering” campaign against Lauzen’s Hispanic heritage (”He’s a Mexican !”) paid off for him. Disgusting.
