I hope with all sincerity that you enjoy the taste of crow, because after bashing me on another thread on this topic, you’ve earned a full plate of it.

Was Hastert so unhappy he couldn’t have waited a few more months and just finished out this term? Now this man who has devoted decades to the GOP has just made his party’s job that much harder. Without a miracle they will not regain control of the House this year or perhaps in the next few election cycles.

Meanwhile any polls showing McCain ahead or within the margin of error seem a little meaningless. If even supposedly solid Repub districts are going to elect Democrats to Congress then we are all in big trouble.

This House race is also a good example of what would’ve happened had we put up Romney as the Presidential nominee.

I’ve come to agree with you. On the bright side, I don’t think he’ll be McCain’s running mate.

Nah, He’ll just appoint Romney to HHS so he can create Romneycare for the whole nation.

Hastert’s plan was to retire early to give his successor a leg up in the general election. Hastert endorsed Oberweis because Obie was willing to self-finance his campaign. The other GOP candidate, St Sen Chris Lauzen is maverick (in a good way) who clashed with IL RINOs in the legislature. Obie blew $3 million of his own money to slam Lauzen in the primary. With Obie’s money and Hastert’s aid, Obie won the primary despite polls showing Lauzen to be more elecatable and likeable.

Wow the IL GOP is self-destructing like crazy. First they lose their nominee in IL-11 and now this. God help the state that used to be the “land of Lincoln.”

I see, thanks for the info. In any case this is discouraging. How much did the Dems spend?

The DCCC dumped $1 million into the race. Plus, Bill Foster, the dem candidate, self-financed his campaign. Also, the unions ran ads blasting Obie.

Wow you sound like me going after the "Schwartzenegger will deliver CA to the GOP", "Condi Rice will make a great VP" and the "Mel Martinez is the true conservative" freepers who hurled insults at me and accused me of "wanting the Dems to win" until their candidate was selected by the party ;-)

At least she didn't accuse Chris Lauzen of being a Topinka plant, which was the "talking point" of the Obie crowd when electable conservaive Bill Brady wouldn't "step aside" for unelectable conservaive Jim Oberweis in 2006.

Speaking of high negatives, what really frustrates me is that there are Dem Governors with negatives in the mid 40s or higher - Corzine, Blago, ME Gov, OR Gov, and Spitzer. Yet, the local GOP parties can’t gain any traction at all.

Yeah, at best, we’ve managed to keep even, but that defies what used to happen in the past in reaction to unpopular incumbent Governor’s parties. ‘06 was a real problem in that it swept even the most unpopular rodent Governors to 2nd terms. But the result this evening was solely due to the fact that the wrong person was nominated for Hastert’s seat (Blago had precious little to do with it). I made the assumption that we’d hold this seat not knowing just how high Oberweis’s negatives were (which I only learned the other day). When I saw them, I knew this race was lost. The only way Oberweis could’ve won was to have driven up Foster’s negatives higher than his. The loss of this seat was inexcusable. Self-financing candidates aren’t the solution every time. You have to stand for something. Oberweis was the IL Romney, an untrustworthy RINO who flipped on the issues in order to win. I couldn’t have voted for him in good conscience, and it looks like neither did a lot of Republicans.

I have no stake in Oberweis’ campaign,
But on the otherhand you are a Hate spewing machine generating lies on behalf of YOU KNOW WHO.

You are still a liar being used to spread vicious rumors. that have no truth to them.

I am still going on and if the Illinois GOP self destructs they deserve it.

I am not a lover or defended of the Il GOP, but you should be ashamed of your hate and spreading of lies. It is pretty obvious how Hypocritical you are and how sensitive you are to criticizism but you turn around and spread propaganda for YOU KNOW WHO!

You ARE A HYPOCRITE!!

You'd think the Oberweis crowd would stop beliving he was the "best" candidate we could run about the time of his third loss or so.

you'd think people would stop listening to you, based on support of one loser after another.

Vote totals from the primary and special election

2/5 Primary

(R) Oberweis 43,909
(R) Lauzen 43,027

(D) Foster 31,910
(D)Laesch 31,587

3/8 Results

(R) Oberweis 46,988
(D) Foster 52,010

Obie could not expand byeond his base of support. The Foster was able to consolidate the Dem support. The Obie supporters are blaming Lauzen and talking of ousting Lauzen from the State Senate in 2010.

Wow, more votes cast in the GOP primary than in the Dem. You don’t see that too often. Yet the Repub nominee still could not win the general. Pretty bad.
