He became a solid conservative only when he figured out that being a RINO was a sure loser in priamries. In 2002, when he ran for the U.S. Senate, he compared religious opponents of abortion to Nazis.
Honestly, I think Foster is here to stay until 2010. I doubt Foster can be ousted if Obama is on top of the ticket.
Chris Lauzen is a strong conservative who fought the GOP establishment in the state Senate. Here’s a brief bio:

What's interesting is that Oberweis was Mr. Border Security in 2004 but said absolutely nothing about illegal aliens in his 2002 Senate race. Likewise he was Mr. End RINO Corruption in his 2006 Governor's race but didn't lift a finger to complain about all the Republican crooks in the headlines during his 2004 race. Hmmm.

Yeah, I would say I agree with him on most issues, at least I do since 2004 when he moved to the right. I'll take it one step further and say that I've worked with the guy in the past and he was very generous and let us use an Oberweis Dairy confernece room for one our ICRC meeting events and that Oberweis is great at raising money and at giving stump speeches to appeal to the GOP base.
But based on his track record I'd say he's an absolutely terrible political candidate.
Chris Lauzen is one of the few IL lawmakers to vote against in-state tuition for illegals. He’s Mexican too. It would have been great to have a pro-border security Hispanic in Congress. The GOP establishment backed Obie because he said he would self-finance his race. But the NRCC had to dump a $1 million bucks to try to save this idiot.
The rural Republican vote has reported, and it was too little, too late.

It’s time to dump the idiot at the NRCC that made the decision to dump a million bucks into this race.
In the primary, Obie blasted Lauzen as being a part of the GOP establishment. Obie said this while bragging about having Hastert’s endorsement.
Has Oberweis made his concession speech yet? I want to know if he’s staying on the ballot or withdrawing.
That's the real killer. Foster has to run again in November. May the brain-dead IL GOP will find a worthy candidate...
I remember that. Nobody in the state Senate has gotten in fights with the party "leadership" more than Lauzen. Calling Lauzen the GOP establishment candidate would be like Stephen Douglas claiming Abe Lincoln was the slaveowner's choice.

One where the image of a sinister looking Oberwise with a ghost like image of Bush hovering over his head for much of the 30 second spot. By sinister I mean..well if anyone is an old Battlestar Galactica fan and remember Baltar...oh better yet. Kubrick, with the character leaning up and the light shining under his chin. That's sinister.
local dems do that a lot, compare all republicans to Bush.
The GOP needs to dump this guy fast. He may be right on the issues but the voters know he’s a jerk.
I saw that. The writing was on the wall. Oberweis unfav’s at 49%. We’ll never go anywhere with candidates like that.

Never fear... New Jersey isn’t far behind. And the Illinois’s Republican party seems about as adept as New Jersey’s, which isn’t saying much.
I fault Hastert, the IL GOP and of course Obie for tonight’s screwup. Last week, Bob Novak listed this seat as Lean GOP. I thought so too. Leave it to Obie to figure out a way to lose a reliable GOP district. And leave to Hastert for helping a poor candidate to win the primary.
I gurantee you none of the Obie fans who berated all us Bill Brady supporters in 2006 and hailed Oberweis as THE candidate to "beat Blago" will ever admit they were wrong. He certainly couldn't have won the highest office in the state if he manages to lose a district that normally gives 70% of its vote to the GOP.
I’m only just getting on here to see the results. Once again, the iron rule of candidate negatives reign supreme here. Oberweis had 1% below a 50% neg rating, and it’s no surprise the outcome. He needs to withdraw from the general so the party can nominate Lauzen, or we’ll see a repeat of this fiasco in November (by a wider margin).
