A gunman in Thailand shot-dead eight neighbours, including his brother-in-law, after tiring of their karaoke versions of popular songs, including John Denvers Country Roads.
Weenus Chumkamnerd, 52, put his gun to the head of a respected female doctor and seven of her guests as they partied at her home in Songkhla Province, South Thailand.
"When I began shooting nobody pleaded for his life because they were all drunk," he said after his arrest.
He said he was so furious with their awful singing that he did not notice he had murdered his own brother-in-law.
...
Country Roads is a hugely popular song in south east Asia and the neighbor said the revelers had been singing it over and over again.

And who can forget the controversy when he was found to be hoarding fuel while demanding others not use fuel way back in the first energy crisis. I remember that & just had an argument with my friend who said he would never have done that.

Let me get this straight. John Denver, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and George Thorogood were responsible for Chuck Berry being inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame? Is that true? Chuck Berry should have been one of the first inductees to the rock and roll hall of fame. Long before these three.
Nooooo, and my apologies for not being clearer about it: John Denver was the emcee, and Stevie Ray Vaughn and George Thorogood came out on stage and jammed with Chuck Berry, and then served as the presenters for his certificate of induction, and it was clear that all three of those guys (Denver, Vaughn and Thorogood) loved Chuck dearly.

Having been to Hadyai countless times over the years I have found that drinking several nice potent glasses of Mekong with Sprite normally makes the karaoke much more bearable.
Having said that I did get in a bit of a problem once over some Thai businessman repeatably singing that God-foresaken song "Lemon Tree" a few years back.
The situation though was defused without anyone getting hurt.

How many times must this happen before we finally learn?
It is not as if these crimes are not predictable...

That's a relief. I know that the so called rock and roll hall of fame as a strange way of inducting people, some who don't rate I mean. Chuck Berry has been called the black Elvis but I believe Chuck has more talent.

When my (then) fiance and I sat down with our wedding band over two decades ago to discuss the playlist, I happened to mention to them that if they played ‘Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog’ I would smash their guitars over their speakers. They just nodded and made a note.

Yes, there are at least fifty of these diseases associated with ethnic groups. It is a strange situation but well-known.

Do you think Weenus also “stuned the beeber”?
While a very tragic story, it is also one of the funniest I’ve read in a while.

My wife’s Thai friend always sings “I Will Survive” karaoke. Over and over.
ugh.
One of my favorite live performances was the piano player in the revolving restaurant in Pattaya Park hotel. He did a stunning rendition of “Donut make my brown ass....brue.”
