The U.S. Senate race in North Carolina also features two prominent women: the Republican incumbent, Elizabeth Dole, and her would-be challenger, Democrat Kay Hagan of Greensboro. Hagan, a powerful state legislator, is running against investment banker Jim Neal for the Democratic nomination and the chance to face Dole in the general election.

If Kay Hagan is the Democrat nominee against Elizabeth Dole, the race will get quite a bit of press coverage.

I can't speak for "everybody", but here in NC, Dole isn't very popular with country folk in the Piedmont and Mountain regions. She has a bad reputation for being a bit "out of touch" with us common people. Kay Hagan has the opposite reputation from what I've seen and heard.

I've had a bad opinion of Dole since years ago when she appeared on the Rosie O'Donnell show and talked about the need for good "common sense" gun control laws and about how we just didn't need "assault weapons".

Out of touch? Anybody heard from Richard Burr lately?

Elizabeth Dole made some unwise statements in 2000, but her voting record has mostly been good.

He’s not “out of touch”. He lives in his own “special” little world.

Have you tried getting the attention of her or her staff lately? We’ve been active here in the state on the issue of NAIS and Dole finally made it to our “useless” list. ..and it didn’t happen overnight either. It took months, and a dozen phone calls. She needs to be replaced along with most of the rest of the useless GOP politicians.

I’m not defending her; I’m complaining about him.

Sen. Dole has an "A" rating from the Gun Owners of America.

Indeed, her voting record is good, even if her constituant services could be better.

That's good. But she's got a ZERO rating from N.C. citizens against NAIS....which are comprised of her own constituency....and she's just not "hearing" anybody which doesn't seem to fit her agenda.

Man, did you ever hit the nail, (on the politician in this case,) on the head. Burr has “no” idea what is going on in the real world!

We'll see. I can guarantee you that she's NOT popular with small farmers.

I’m surprised that she’s not well liked, but I don’t know much about politics in NC now.

I was fortunate to live there when Sen. Helms was in office.
And, I mean fortunate...

I had to go there in the line of my job a couple of months ago, and I agree with him when he said (paraphrasing) that they should put a fence around the zoo and sell tickets so people could see the place!
