Rove explained that he and McCain got to know each other during the 2004 campaign. In a separate interview, Mehlman noted that McCain was completely loyal to the president in 2004 and worked incredibly hard to help him get elected. According to Taylor, The Bush Republicans here in town are excited for John McCain.

Oh, I am cut to the quick by your verbal parry.....
...and lack of spellcheck.
Listen, OnRiver, don’t take it so personally. There will be others that don’t agree with your point of view. This IS a discussion forum.
But the McCainiacs here insist on peeing on my leg and telling me it’s raining.
Too bad McLoser didn’t jump ship to the Dems in 2001 like he planned—then he wouldn’t be the GOP candidate for President. For that reason alone, he should have been shown the door by the GOP. He loved his country and party and President so much, that he would tip the balance of power in favor of the traitorous Dems led by Lil Tommy Daschle. Wow, McLoser must have been really PO’d when Jim Jeffords jumped ahead of him across the aisle.
The same guy who believes in the scam called global warming, who pushed amnesty not once, but twice, in the face of an unwilling electorate, who unconstitutionally abridged political freedom of speech, who founded the Gang of 14 when Bill Frist finally found his testicles. The same guy, with traitor John Kerry , in 1993 closed the door on the fate of the 600 Vietnam War POWs we KNOW we left behind in 1973 and told the POW families to cease and desist from trying to get to the truth—you know, his fellow POWS?
And this is the guy you want me to walk over broken glass to vote for?
Ain’t gonna happen. Not now. Not ever.
I admire the courage and deep principles exhibited in leaving the party---but I have to agree with cal.
Giuliani, Arnie, Mehlman, Rockefeller Pubs, the Kristol "National Greatness" whackos, and Log Cabiners are cancers on the body politic.
They spring from the Everything-For-Us-Nothing-For-You wing of US politics (no different from Me Myself and I Democrats).
This cancerous growth can't be allowed to expand and infect the political system as we know it.
The Repub party got control of the Congress, the WH, and numerous state offices, for a generation BECAUSE of conservatives.
Everytime they try to win without conservatives---it's been a disaster.
Correction. Hillary and/or Obama will beat him like a drum.
Yes, I’ll just have my friends in Palm Beach County to vote several times. Democrats can get away with that in Florida.
In North Carolina, the only way to cross party lines is to be registered as an Independent. Since I will have NO VOTE in our Primary in May, the only way I can speak as a voter would be as a Democrat. I can at least help determine the next opponent in November. Make more sense now?
You're not naive, calcowgirl, that I know.
You know and I know ...they get it....but they just don't care, cause they know we don't have anywhere else to go
Wake up!...it doesn't matter who you pull the lever for.
HILLARY WILL BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT....mark my words.(this has been ordained by the Bush/Clinton dynasty & whoever is the puppet master)
McCain is a fake foil.
It's all a game people.
“Hillary will beat him like a drum if she is the nominee.”
And I can see you’ll be happier for it.
THen why has he ranked as high as he has as a conservative over the years? He’s consistently in the top 12%
Well, I’m convinced. Unless McCain sits down with the conservatives on this forum and in the media, in private I hope, and tries to sell them on his candidacy, he’s toast.
This is sad, as I truly believe that he can be a good president.
Guen, with the three stooges that are out there as possible nominees, there is not a dime’s worth of difference, and I’ve said so numerous times.
If Hillary or the Obamamaniac is such a terrible choice for our country, why does the GOP put up McLame, the least of the Republicans against her and/or him?
I agree with you—the fix is in. McCain has already signaled that he won’t fight either of them the way they need to be fought.
So I choose not be part of the madness. I’ll vote downballot for the other offices, but I won’t for McStupid.
The speed with which the GOP puppet masters are closing ranks, and trying to shut us up is indicative that they want us neutralized before we start to ask too many embarrassing questions about He Who is Annointed.
More silliness. Over the last few years, his conservative rating has been among the lowest of Pubbies—something in the order of 65%.
Are you going to believe some group’s ratings or your lying eyes?
I choose my eyes—I can see that he is not a conservative, because actions speak louder than words,or for that matter, ratings.
That worked out real well for them in 2006, didn't it? Many folks who are accustomed to voting GOP will continue to do so. But you can't motivate the grassroots conservatives to actually help liberal slugs get elected. Nor can you get folks excited about voting for a platform that looks like the other guys.
At a minimum, McCain needs to be fought before his Global Warming scam and all-out amnesty and open boarders finds its way into the Republican platform.
I'm in California. I think that is a very true statement, at least for me.
I have to agree with TommyDale here. In Indiana, we do not have a primary until May. In essence, we were denied any meaningful vote as to who our candidate will be. The best we can do is try to aid in the selection of the RAT candidate.
We are the people who have no opportunity to have our opinion heard or our vote really counted.
I resent that.
Of course, in November I still cannot bring myself to vote for McCain.
Top 12%? Is that some secret ranking that you found or new math? In 2006, ACU shows him as 46th in the Senate (a rating of 65 out of 100) with even Chuck Hagel showing up as more conservative.
I can't either. I just cannot reward this person with my vote. You know, it wasn't too long ago around here that McCain was considered a joke for a GOP Senator.
We aren't the weird ones, the weird ones are those that have sunk so low that they have forgotten that, just because they are too afraid to stand up to the NEW GOP. Screw them and their lilly livered weakness.
I voted on Feb 5th, so my situation was different. But I don’t like this crossing over stuff. It just screws the process up that much more, IMO. And, I must say that I love seeing McCain unable to garner even 50% of the votes, even when he’s the nominee. To me, that sends a message to the ignoramuses that pushed him through the process and in the unlikely event that we actually get a President McCain, it should send a message his way, as well. If I were in NC, I’d be punching the ballot for one of the non-McCain pubbies.
