Ad to challenge Gore's planet-saving image

March 8, 2008

By Jennifer Harper - He has a mighty big carbon footprint.

Al Gore's opulent lifestyle and his virtuous plea to save the planet from global warming don't mesh, according to the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), which announced plans yesterday for a new national advertising campaign to showcase the contrast before the American public.

It comes at an unsure time for the former vice president, whose climate efforts have netted both an Oscar and Nobel Prize in the last year. Mr. Gore's finances were questioned this week by Business Week, Bloomberg and others, citing his recent $35 million hedge fund investment and a public investment offering for his cable network Current TV — which could yield a potential $50 million profit.

Yet his name is also being bandied about in some Democratic and progressive circles for a presidential "dream team" ticket pairing him with Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.

The CEI ad will highlight Mr. Gore's "hypocrisy," said Sam Kazman, general counsel of the free-market public policy group.

"He is the high priest of global warming but he continues his high-flying ways," said Mr. Kazman.

"Restricting affordable energy can affect our jobs and the well-being of this nation. To restrict affordable energy in developing countries would be incredibly disturbing. That could constitute a life and death matter for them," Mr. Kazman said.

The spot, which begins airing Tuesday on several cable networks, is also meant to counter a new outreach by the Alliance for Climate Protection, an umbrella organization founded by Mr. Gore last year. The group is planning a massive music festival in July and will spend a reported $10 million on advocacy ads promoting the "climate crisis" and eco-consciousness.

Algore may may get the credit for founding the group, but I doubt very much, him being the string-puller, in any of this global-warming BS. It would take some pretty stout string for him to be dancing at the ends of same.

Oops, that was pretty mean-spirited.

I will believe in the Global Warming Hoax, when the charlatans who tout the Global Warming Hoax personally behave as if Global Warming were real. (i.e. Gore, Hollywood Morons and EuroTrash socialists).

"If Gore truly believed the future of Earth is in peril, he would have started at home by doing his part to reduce his own 'carbon footprint.' Instead he wrote a book, made a movie and invested in companies that sell carbon offsets, all while flying on private plane and consuming 20 times more energy than the average American. That tells me that he's nothing more than a modern day snake oil salesman," Mr. Johnson said yesterday.

 Pretty much sums it up.

I hope the ads show Gore for the hypocrit he is.  All it needs is a few simple picture for the American audience.  Large jet, Big house, Money all to Mr. Gore who did nothing more than talk the talk.  Showmanship is one thing, but when you take other's hard earned money and expect them to do what you yourself are unwilling to do, I call that fraud.

Plus his daddy-gore set the whole family up real good with Occidental Petroleum’s Armand Hammer - so much so that global Al saw fit to sell the Elk Hills Naval Oil Reserve to Occidental while Al was VP - easy math for Al’s huge Occidental holdings once that deal was done.

Isn't he one of the owners of the company where you can buy offsets against you energy-wasting ways? You fly a private jet across the country, then buy an off-set from Al Gore's company, and they plant a tree somewhere.

Sounds like a scheme to me.

You should wash your mouth out with soap for this horrible irreverence. I, too, have established a carbon indulgence scheme (oops, environmentally responsible carbon credit plan) based on my younger dog's flatulence. I will sell carbon credits @ $100 apiece to all Freepers and use the proceeds to buy Beano to reduce his flatulence. It is beyond my understanding to see how you can criticize AlGore for a similar idea. Dog fart credits are an essential weapon in the battle against Global Warming!!

I think the global warming hoax is soon to be exposed and Al Gore will be revealed as a charlatan.

It is definitely a scheme. The carbon offset companies are nothing but scam energy banks that were set up in order to allow the elites (gore, etc.) to be able to continue life as usual (jets, mansions - with no guilt) while the rest of us are living in the dark ages.

BTW, we’re currently having snow flurries 50 miles south of Atlanta.

My idea was a “carbon onset” website, I put carbon back into the atmosphere that liberal phonies have “offset”... you know, but some stupid sticker to appease their conscience because they’re too phony to practice what they preach. For $50, I will dump 1 ton of carbon back into the atmosphere.

My only problem was that someone already did it. I was saddened.

You wouldn’t believe how gullible the Universities are. They have all the kids who are ripe for the picking “going green”. Will Newsweek and Time run the ad so the kids will read it?
