Taking bets on who will win more votes: Nader or Keyes.

I’d go for Nader.......

If he wants to run...more power to him. The more choices the better. If the Republicans are selling a good product they shouldn’t fear competition.IMO.

Quite frankly, if he was

a) Serious

b) Viable

and c) Not doing this because of his own ego

I would say join the fray.

But he's not any of the above. And thus continues to make conservatives a laughing stock and allows as another poster noted an ability to continue with various caging activities and raising his other speaking engagement opportunities.

I haven’t kept up with him. I thought he held the top candidates to issues in the previous debates but all this civil war repair stuff has kept me from giving him a 2nd glance this time.

We may need to add a point spread. To date, all participants are betting Nader will get more votes than Keyes.

Keyes didn’t just lose big in the liberal areas of IL. He bombed out in Chicagoland suburbs that voted for Bush and other conservative legislators. The Keyes campaign assured IL conservatives that Alan Keyes will help build a conservative network to take back the IL GOP and oust the Dems from power in IL. After being spanked by Obama, Keyes took what little donations he had and ran away. Alan Keyes wanting to be the CP nominee is just another scam for Keyes to get money.

The man's a crackpot.

Party Crashers (from 2000)

Keyes to a Fiasco: Illinois Republicans decide to make a bad situation worse. (from 2004)

It is better to lose a little than to lose it all.

Fight Liberalism, no matter which party!

Not Alan obviously. ;-)

Oh, I don't know... Dr. Keyes is quite used to bucking a stacked deck. I doubt he had any illusions of grandeur.

“They’re a bunch of hit-and-run cowards who take people’s money and hope and then disappear.”

Sounds like an apt description of the GOP and they have a long history of doing what you describe.

Since you are a new bee, these people have been cranked up for years about third parties and this can only split the republicans - conservatives and insure a democrat victory, but you knew this already.

There was no need for Keyes to go there. He was an oportunistic carpetbagger who's ego got the better of him.

This would suggest that your statement is incorrect:

[...] Keyes is being begged by a desperate state party to make the journey to Illinois and give them a credible nominee.

[...] Keyes' nomination is a Hail Mary pass from the Illinois GOP and everyone knows it. Odds of success are better than any other probable candidate, but have to be at least 2:1 against him. He's pinch-hitting with less than 90 days to go in the race and replacing a disgraced nominee.

McCain is a boob. So is Keyes. What’s your point?

Keyes insulted Cheney’s daughter for being gay. His own gay daughter had this to say:

“Maya Marcel-Keyes will be making her first public appearance as a gay activist at a Valentine Day’s rally in front of the Maryland State House, says Dan Furmansky, the leader of Equality Maryland, a gay rights group.

Last summer her father, a conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate, caused a stir during the Republican convention by labeling Vice President Dick Cheney’s lesbian daughter a sinner and calling homosexuality “selfish hedonism.”

“It was kind of strange that he said it like a hypothetical,” she told the Washington Post. “It was really kind of unpleasant.”

Marcel-Keyes told the Post her parents have thrown her out of the house, stopped speaking to her and refuse to pay for college because she is gay. She said she loves her parents.”

Keyes is a small, small man. Hate the sin, but love the sinner, particularly if you brought her into the world.

Yes, but don’t underwrite the sin either, right?

Yeah, riiiight. He entered the race with 60 days to go, replacing the thoroughly disgraced candidate of an impotent party. But of course, that he got spanked in the election is all his fault.

Imagine that. A Conservative who practices what he preaches... Who's words are reflected in his own house, and who stands fast for the truth even when it must grieve him greatly.

That is no small man. That is the mark of a great man. A principled man. I would expect no less.
