AP Poll: More Say They're Democrats
AP ^ | March 7, 2008 | Alan Fram

Posted on 03/07/2008 9:32:46 AM PST by Clairity

The poll showed 52 percent call themselves Democrats, up from 45 percent in an AP-Ipsos survey in mid-December. Thirty-five percent say they are Republicans, about the same as December's 37 percent.

Surveys in recent months have shown more people have favorable opinions of the Democratic Party than the GOP. There has also been far higher turnout in Democratic presidential primaries this year than in GOP contests, in part reflecting that Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama continue grappling for the nomination.

It's going to be a tough election in November -- Republicans need all the votes they can get.

Democrats are always in that touchy-feely mode. They LOVE telling everyone that they are a democrat. Republicans tell pollsters, NONE of your business!

Polls can be misleading.

And you have to take a poll from the perspective o fhte source. AP is a leftist news organ.

On the other hand, a lot of cosnervatives are VERY unhappy with the McCainiac - AND the Republican Party’s treatment of them in general. We will never vote Democrat. But if enough of us don’t vote McCain, he’s finished.

Why would anyone identify themselves as either a conservative and/or a Republican in public?

Goldwater would be arrested in this political climate for "hate speech."

Dems have almost always been the majority when these polls are taken. That’s been the case for decades. Didn’t prevent Republicans from taking a majority in Congress and in the state houses for over a decade.

If the number of self described Dems went from 45% to 52% in just a few months then that is a huge shift in such a short amount of time. It certainly indicates those who so easily change their party declaration have no core values and little loyalty to one side or the other. Just my 2 cents.

Now I know why I am happy not to be in the USA, a country full of DUMBocrats.
I do, however, feel for my fellow Freepers that are stuck there.

[The poll was conducted from March 3-5 and involved telephone interviews with 1,013 adults. . .]

This poll is not of regular voters or registered voters but just the unwashed masses. Results also depend on who is doing the calling and marking the results and what spin the customer is likely to desire. The P in AP stands for propaganda.

For contrast, here’s a real poll by a real pollster:

Washington State Presidential Election
McCain 45% Obama 44%

However a conservative pollster, Scott Rasmussen, a Fox News contributor has essentially the same findings, as does the Gallup Organization.
The Republicans would ignore these findings to their peril. There is still plenty of time to cease the Party Identification numbers away from the Dems.

Nah. You have nowhere else to go. And besides he'll bring in those all important independents, moderates, and Reagan Democrats. People are really psyched about voting for him. Haven't you heard?. Look at the huge turnout he inspired in the primaries.

I haven't seen such optimism since 1996.
