The student body president at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was found fatally shot in a residential neighborhood not far from campus.
Police said Eve Marie Carson, a 22-year-old senior from Athens, Ga., was shot several times, including at least once in the head. Officials said there are no suspects and no arrests have been made.
Police had said they were looking for Carson's vehicle, a blue 2005 Toyota Highlander with Georgia plates. But someone called police Thursday after spotting it abandoned near downtown.
Lt. Kevin Gunter, spokesman for the Chapel Hill Police Department, declined to comment when asked if police had found the car.
Officers spent most of Wednesday and Thursday morning following up and searching for leads in the case. At a news conference Thursday, investigators called it a "fairly random crime."
Officers found a woman's body on a street early Wednesday, after neighbors reported hearing shots about 5 a.m. Police identified the woman as Carson on Thursday.

Are these the same cops from the Duke LAX case??? It's a different city, but there must be something in the NC water....
Seems like a casual "routine" answer to me.... It's really sad to see this keep happening.
This is PC cop-speak for “We think one of “Those People” did it, but we’re too scared to say so!”
Moments ago the Chapel Hill PD Chief noted that their investigators were 'consulting' with Durham PD. Makes chills go up my back...
Another unarmed individual becomes a victim. Will they ever learn?
Give these cops a break. They are doing none of the stupid crap that the Durham team did.
They even sent a plane to GA to pick up the victim’s family, unlike Duke University, which did next to nothing to accommodate the family of the Indian student who was killed in December.
Most likely a car-jacking perpetrated by ‘the usual suspects’.
So, no, don’t look for this to be solved anytime soon.
I really don’t mean to diss the guys working on this case.... but the “routine crime” comment set me off.... He might has well have said “routine murder”....
routine = random
Mid-week. Co-ed out at 5 AM. Odd, even if it’s Spring break time. My son’s a college senior and he is never out at 5 AM. He might be out til 3, but never 5.
I bet she knew her attacker ... (guessing; ready for flames)
Eve Marie Carson - RIP
WTF does that mean? Morons. Multiple gunshot wounds to the body sounds more like a hate crime or something personal.
Maybe she liked to go jogging early in the morning, or she might have been going to or from the library. If this was during mid-term, she might have been up late studying.
In which case, the only thing to do is to offer a fat reward for information leading towards conviction and wait for greedy “friends”/rellies to turn them in.
Sounds a might personal for a "fairly random crime."
I immediately told her that I managed a bachelors and a post grad degree without ever being in the library at those hours, and so we expected her to manage her work and schedule in such a way that would prevent her ever having to be at the library at those times. She has never had to be at a library even at midnight. Especially today where you have online libraries, and much easier access to information. You simply do not have to do that sort of thing.
She was student body President, how on earth this early would they know it was a “random” crime.
Barny Fife was from North Carolina
Planned parenthood has large offices in Chapel Hill
When you turn from I 40 onto 15/501 you can feel the chilll of the blue zone
The police now have this victim’s car - found by a local citizen who saw the news report....car on her street. She called 911.
Reports say the student leader had roomates who were going out around 1 AM and she stayed home to study. That was the last time they (roommates) said they saw her.
Clothing indicates possible jogging attire.
North Carolina has no death penalty right now. This murderer, as all murderers, deserve the death penalty.
The young woman evidently was simply an outstanding person, leader, student. Just so very very tragic.
Prayers for her family and her friends and for the police and others who will be doing all they can to find the scum who did this. Then get the death penalty BACK IN PROCESS you Dems.
