As I watched John McCain address his supporters on Tuesday night after clinching the Republican presidential nomination, I surprised myself by turning to my wife and saying, Hes going to win.
This one speech moved me from thinking he has a good chance to being convinced hell be the next president. Much of it had to do with his calm demeanor and confident delivery. But its the root of these attributes that lead to my sudden confidence in McCains ultimate success.
My wife, who if anything is even more conservative than I am, replied: People really hate Republicans right now.
Overstated, perhaps, but I get what shes saying. Much of the electorate wants the ubiquitous holy grail of change. People think the economy is bad because they listen to the medias nonsense on the subject. A lot of people still think were losing in Iraq.
And as this column has often lamented, Republicans had complete control of the government from 2001 through 2006, and didnt accomplish much. People should be disappointed about that. I know I am.
But once the general election campaign starts, it wont be about Republicans in the abstract. It will be about John McCain, on his own merits and in contrast to his opponent, whether thats Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. Heres why I am convinced he will win.

I’ll say this, though. If he is, he’d better put Constructionist judges on the Federal benches. The long-life of a Leftist judge does far more harm to this country than anything else, domestically.
And remember, even if we “build the fence,” it only takes one black-robed thug to order that it is unconstitutional and have it torn down.
...ergo: RINO Juan.
Don’t forget Jorge.
Much of it had to do with his calm demeanor and confident delivery.
That’s John at his very very best. Just wait til someone pisses him off and he has a public hissy fit.
6. Maybe Nader being in the race will also help him a bit.
Sí, Presidente Jorge también falla.
6. Same as GW. He is running against idiots.
The first “hispanic” president....
“Maybe Nader being in the race will also help him a bit.”

Notice how the MSM made the Nader announcement into a one-day story. I think in the end that if he stays in, it will be what enables McCain to win. Why? Because enough of the Obama or Hillary supporters will decide to make a protest vote and Nader will give them that opportunity.
McCain will absolutely destroy Obamas argument that we should simply up and leave. It will be easy to demonstrate how disastrous that would be. Elections are about the future, and the Iraq debate will be about what to do now. McCain will win that debate easily. He's already winning it.
When Hussein said "if Al Qaeda forms a base in Iraq, we will return...", President Bush mumbled and fumbled a reply and John McCain responded with great force, wit and brevity zapping that stinking commie from Illinois and making him look like the utter fool and/or traitor that he is.
For the nearly 8 years Bush has been in the WH, he has mostly mumbled and fumbled his responses to nasty stupidities constantly mouthed by the traitors and nitwits who fill the ranks of the Treason Party.
For all of McCain's faults (and he has many) we can rest assured that when he wants to (and on matters of National Defense he will always want to), he has the wit and intelligence to slap those commies down.
He'll do it in the campaign, and he'll do it in the WH.
1.) Phil Graham is an Economic Adviser (I supported him for President in 1996)
2.) He campaigned against ethanol subsidies in Iowa
3.) He campaigned in Florida to privatize Social Security and cut benefits
Don’t confuse people with the facts.
Interesting. My favorite part is where Clinton and/or Obama lose the election.
yesterday Juan Sidney McCain’s keeping the President of the USA waiting for him and having to do a softshoe to entertain the press- reminded me of what an arrogant vindictive SOB he (McCain)is.
I suppose those traats could be put to good use against the Iranian or North Koreans but I’m afraid Juan Sidney will more likely give a hard time to conservatives and leftovers from the Bush team.
He is not a man who should be President. Only the democrats giving us even less worthy choices makes him viable.
Whether he wins or loses means little, though he is the lesser of the three evil politicians running, but conservatives need a conservative party and no rinos allowed.

A pitiful 5.2M in cash... and a humiliating 5.5M in debt (!!!).
(By dismal comparison: Hillary Clinton, in the last month alone, raised a staggering 35M; and Obama, during that same 30 day stretch, raked in a gargantuan 50M.)
What was that we've been hearing all throughout this very site, these past few weeks, about this "exciting new electoral coalition of moderate Democrats, independents and Hispanics," all of 'em just dying, just friggin' DYING for the opportunity to sweep Juan McCain into the highest elected office in all the land...? ;)
“He is not a man who should be President. Only the democrats giving us even less worthy choices makes him viable.”
I haven’t heard it said any better. Lord, I hate the lousy choices we have this time around!
