Breaking: small explosive device thrown at military recruiting office in Times Square, New York City.
” (no, not a lit cigarette, either) “
Couldn’t be — Mayor Bloomberg has all-but outlawed cigarettes (lit or otherwise) in NYC...
there we go. we’ll ban cigarettes for national security reasons
Thanks!

Firecracker, maybe? Maybe even a cherry bomb. Are cherry bombs still made?

Times Square still closed.

“Explosion Hits Military Recruiting Station at New York’s Times Square”
Thursday, March 06, 2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “DEVELOPING STORY An explosion has been reported in New York’s Times Square. It happened on 43rd and 8th at the military recruiting station at approximately 3:45 a.m.
A witness decribed the explosion as, “loud enough that people at the marriott marquis heard it and saw a puff of smoke.”
All traffic in the area has been diverted. Police have closed 46th to 42nd between 6th and 8th streets.”
And at nine plus bucks a pack, one doesn't just go throwing them around.
Per Fox News link, another unexploded device has been found at the scene.
Hope they clear this up soon. My office is just a few blocks from there, and I take the subway line that runs right under Times Square.
May the perp(s) be caught and dealt with. NYC is a very lefty liberal place on the whole, but since 9/11 the attitude towards any kind of terrorism is quite hawkish.

“Small blast halts Times Square
subways”
(CNN) —
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Police and fire squads were in the area around West 43rd Street. They gathered outside a military recruiting station with a large hole in the front window, the AP reported.
Subway service has been stopped to Times Square. “
I hope it is cleared up soon, too.
OPINON:
I’m sure the area needs to be checked thoroughly before reopening to the public.
Yes.
I’ll turn on my TV to monitor.
Thanks for the updates.
Probably some dumb kid with an ash can or an M-80. This kinda stuff would never be “internationally breaking news” 20 or 30 years ago.
Exactly, and that’s likely to take some time and cause a huge commuting mess.
Ok
