So what they are saying is that you have no legal right to teach your children. What a bunch of bull! What’s worse is that we homeschool and I was considering taking a job in San Diego. Now I may have to rethink this.
And we homeschooled there. We signed up with a local private school, and we taught under the "independent study" program of that school. As far as the state knew, our child was attending the site school.
The families that got hassled were the ones who filed the state "affidavit" stating that they were providing a home education. Because we were affiliated with the private school, no affidavit was necessary. We weren't about to send up a red flag to Sacramento that we were homeschoolers.
You might consider a distance learning academy if you do move. It’s considered a private school, but you teach at home, and design your own curriculum. It’s legally accredited in all 50 states, and my kids have attended it for the last 8 years. It’s called: west river academy, based in San Jaun Capistrano. Since it’s an accredited private school, you cut out all the state stuff. I know they have a website, I think it’s :www.WestRiverAcademy.com. If you signed up before you moved, you’d never have to register with the state or anything.
www.westriveracademy.com is the link. I don’t know why it won’t link automatrically. Freepmail me if you have any questions.
May have to?
Parents who do nothing to promote their kids education? Quite legal!
Those who do everything? Banned!
I’d like to say “Only in California” but in the long run, I doubt it.
“Whats worse is that we homeschool and I was considering taking a job in San Diego. Now I may have to rethink this.”
You’d be well advised to find a job in a different state.
